As warmer spring weather begins to reach New England, it's important to reflect on the impact this cold winter had on our region’s energy systems, and how we might better prepare for the future: ⛽️ Severe weather this winter season has dramatically increased foreign oil use for electricity generation in New England, with about 800 tanker railcars of oil burned in January — nearly four times as much as last winter, according to ISO New England Inc.'s NEPOOL Participants Committee Report. 📈 Imported natural gas reserves were also tapped, with January totals surpassing those of the entire previous winter. 💸 The extreme cold, coupled with a constrained gas supply system, resulted in a dramatic increase in gas prices, sending average regional spot market electricity prices in January to almost double compared to January 2024. ⚡️ Without these fossil fuel imports, New England’s current power supply would not be able to keep up with demand, creating an “energy shortfall” that could lead to rolling blackouts across the region. New England urgently needs a domestic energy source like offshore wind to fill this critical gap in our energy mix and reduce our dependence on expensive imported fuel. #offshorewind #energyreliability

This past weekend, our team attended two important events with key environmental education leaders in Rhode Island: Rhode Island Environmental Education Association (RIEEA)'s Annual Summit and Thrive Outside’s Teacher Learning Circle. 🌱 In Providence, the RIEEA Summit brought together environmental educators, community leaders and industry experts to share knowledge and strategies for advancing environmental education throughout the State. 🐝 Thrive Outside is dedicated to creating equitable access to nature for all by facilitating outdoor events, programs and partnerships that empower individuals and families to explore the great outdoors. At Saturday’s Thrive Outside Teacher Learning Circle event at the AgInnovation Farm in Portsmouth, a group of trailblazing teachers gathered to connect with other local outdoor education experts looking to support and create outdoor learning opportunities for their students. We appreciate the insights gained and connections made at both events, and look forward to continuing to support initiatives that reinforce the value of outdoor education and environmental awareness in our communities. #offshorewind #communitysupport #getoutside

Continuous engagement with both commercial and recreational fishermen is essential to offshore wind development and this winter, the SouthCoast Wind team has been actively connecting with the local fishing community across Rhode Island and Massachusetts. 🎣 At the Massachusetts Lobsterman Association's Annual Weekend and Tradeshow, our fisheries manager Samuel Asci was on-site engaging with local fishermen to answer questions and discuss how offshore wind projects are working collaboratively with the region’s fishing community to promote sustainable and responsible development. And this weekend our team had a great time in Rhode Island at the 2025 New England Saltwater Fishing Expo — marking the unofficial spring-kickoff for the fishing community and bringing thousands of anglers to Providence as they prepare for the season ahead. Huge thanks to the Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association for hosting another successful expo and for the opportunity to be a part of it. As we reflect on the spirit of giving this holiday season, SouthCoast Wind is proud to support the United Way of Greater Fall River’s 2024 Food Grant program. This year, the program will provide critical funding to 20 local nonprofits dedicated to combating food insecurity across the South Coast region. These organizations are ensuring that our neighbors have access to one of life’s most basic needs — nutritious food. The impact of their work is far-reaching and it’s an honor to be part of a collective effort to help make a difference. This Thanksgiving, let us all remember our neighbors in need and reflect on how we can continue to support our communities. 🍽️ #givingback #foodsecurity #unitedway #communitysupport #offshorewind
This morning’s Food Grant Gathering brought together 20 Greater Fall River food distribution partners to award $75,000 in funding to support their efforts fighting food insecurity throughout SouthCoast communities. We’re proud to collaborate with so many organizations working tirelessly to ensure our neighbors have this basic need met, and it’s through collaboration that we’re able to distribute these much needed dollars. Local partners BayCoast Bank, Mechanics Cooperative Bank, and SouthCoast Wind along with individual donations and the newly established Greater Fall River Community Soup Kitchen Service Fund are collectively making it possible to infuse $75,000 directly into the community, increasing access to healthy, nutritious options and fresh meats and produce. We thank you all for your commitment to this caring community as #UnitedIsTheWay to create food secure futures for all.

On Veterans Day, OW Ocean Winds NORTH AMERICA and our team honor all of the U.S. military veterans who have served our country. We recognize their courage and commitment, and we are deeply grateful for their service. We also recognize that veterans play a critical role in the domestic clean energy economy, which will help protect our national security and create economic growth across the country. According to the American Clean Power Association (ACP), more than 42,000 veterans work in the U.S. wind and solar industries, and the clean energy sector employs veterans at a higher rate than the national average. We are so proud to have many veterans on our OW NA team and thankful for the experience and dedication they bring each day as we work towards building a clean energy future for all. #ProudtobeOW #VeteransDay #CleanEnergy #OffshoreWind
