About us
The Southeast Concrete Masonry Association (SCMA) is a trade association representing masonry producers and associate members across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee and Georgia. Since 1946, the SCMA has been promoting the quality use of concrete masonry as well as the economic advantages that make concrete masonry units “CMUs” the world’s safest building product. The SCMA grassroots focus is educational and promotional efforts to Architects, Structural Engineers, Specifiers, General Contractors, Construction Managers, Owners and Developers on why Build Better with Block is more economical, lower lifecycle costs and most importantly safer to build with while delivering savings in the overall design of the building.

In a world that feeds off bad news, the Southeast Concrete Masonry Association leadership felt it important to show positive news of grassroots efforts being made from volunteer pilots around America this week. Partnering with Operation Airdrop, the SCMA has been hands on unloading planes and helping with logistics of donations to hard-hit areas at the Rutherford County, NC airport. We have met volunteer pilots from Maine, Texas, Africa (yes Africa), South Carolina, New York, Missouri, Virginia, Wisconsin, Colorado, Tennessee, Florida to name a few. It has been a truly humbling experience to see the "good side of humanity" from the pilots and the ground volunteers coming together for people they don't know, never spoke to, and will never meet. This is the HEART of AMERICA! Here's a quick update of the efforts this week. Monday - 67 planes Tuesday - 91 planes Wednesday - 121 planes Thursday - 114 planes....2 of these planes we loaded out of the area 67 dogs and 49 cats that had been displaced or left behind due to the storm. 383 planes in 4 days with 98,250 pounds of essential supplies......Americans helping their fellow Americans!

Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts The Southeast Concrete Masonry Association has already taken steps to respond to Hurricane Helene with boots on the ground and boots in the air through our partnership with Operation Airdrop Inc. Operation Airdrop is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to providing rapid relief to communities impacted by natural disasters. They mobilize volunteer pilots and a diverse fleet of aircrafts to deliver essential supplies to areas cut off from traditional aid routes. We are excited to announce that Operation Airdrop has established a main staging base at Concord Regional Airport to support relief efforts in the wake of recent events in Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee. Since Monday, September 30th, the Southeast Concrete Masonry Association leadership has been “boots on the ground,” coordinating and unloading supplies with many other volunteers for 151 volunteer flights coming into the Rutherford Regional Airport in Rutherford County, NC. Once planes are unloaded, we stage these supplies based off real time area needs and distribute to five key areas to support the families of Chimney Rock, Black Mountain, Asheville, Marshall and Hot Springs. Over 20,000 pounds of supplies have been delivered in the first two days. If you would like to donate, please send all donations to Operation Airdrop designated center at Walmart by Concord Mills. The address is 5825 Thunder Rd NW, Concord, NC 28027. List of priority supplies are

Thank to our members and industry friends who have reached out to offer assistance to areas in NC and beyond affected by Hurricane Helene. If you have materials and supplies you can donate, they can be taken to the Rutherford County Airport (by car or plane). Volunteers are on site and items will be taken from there and distributed to areas in need. Additionally, Thomas Jefferson High School, Florence Baptist Church, and Rutherford County Health Department are all accepting supplies. For those who are affected by Hurricane Helene we are keeping you in our thoughts.
