Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming our friends from TARTA to our world headquarters in Toledo. They joined Jennifer Breault, Senior Architect and Chair of SSOE’s Sustainable Design Strategy Group, in leading a lunch and learn session for employees and launching the SSOE + TARTA Challenge. During our lunch hour, we explored the modern amenities TARTA offers to Toledo-area public transit users. Whether for sustainability, cost savings, leisure, or various other reasons, TARTA’s services cater to a wide range of needs. Our CEO Vince DiPofi, who commuted to the office via TARTA today and joined us for lunch, continues to be impressed by the transit authority’s upgrades and user-friendly experience. As we wrapped up, Jen announced an exciting challenge from our Sustainable Design Strategy Group encouraging employees to download TARTA’s intuitive apps and use public transit at least four times in October. This friendly competition aims to inspire similar initiatives across our network of offices. #chooseSSOE

See yourself at SSOE! We’ve been busy meeting emerging professionals at career fairs across the nation from California to Ohio! Our experts were on-site at … • San Jose State University • Tennessee State University • Prairie View A&M University • Kennesaw State University • Bowling Green State University … engaging with students, workshopping resumes, and even touring campus. Many of our technical experts began as co-ops or interns and take pride in our program being a conduit for full-time employment within SSOE. In the past three years, we’ve hired over 200 co-ops and interns, offering benefits like scholarships, tuition reimbursement, and licensure / professional registration support. And people who join SSOE tend to stay with SSOE—as proven by our unmatched turnover rate. Catch us on your campus to see why! #chooseSSOE

Fast-tracking EV innovation and building a pipeline of talent for the future: Our recent collaboration with Hyundai Motor Group North America, the Technical College System of Georgia, Georgia Quick Start, and other stakeholders reached a major milestone last week with the topping out of the state-of-the-art Hyundai Mobility Training Center of Georgia. This 90,000 SF facility, located next to Hyundai’s first dedicated EV mass-production “metaplant” in the U.S., will feature cutting-edge technologies along with classrooms, labs, and manufacturing spaces to support Hyundai’s ambitious vision for the future and benefit the citizens of Georgia. Set to be completed in late 2025, this facility represents the largest economic investment in Georgia, solidifying the state’s leadership in EV manufacturing and promoting Hyundai’s vision of becoming a global smart mobility solution provider. #SSOEsoutheast #WorkforceDevelopment

Our firm has long advocated for sustainable transportation and the infrastructure enhancements that support public transit. We're also a known leader in the electric vehicle and battery manufacturing subsectors that designed the world’s first and only automotive manufacturing plant to receive a LEED Platinum certification. So, when our friends at TARTA sought a partner to help move toward electrification, they didn’t have to look further than their own backyard. SSOE is excited to announce collaborative initiatives with TARTA to promote enhanced sustainable transportation solutions, as well as a new project partnership aimed at propelling Toledo further into the future. TARTA's CEO Laura Koprowski, along with SSOE's Vince DiPofi, PE and Jennifer Breault, quoted within. #PressRelease

The Lean Construction Institute's newly formed Manufacturing Ecosystem Group ("the MEG"), which held its first in-person meeting at the LCI Design Forum in April, was formed to accelerate the development and adoption of Lean Design and Construction practices in industrial manufacturing settings. The group will now hold its first webinar series, “Creating Trust and Vision Alignment in Large-Scale Projects,” beginning Wednesday, September 25th—just a month out from the LCI Congress in San Diego where SSOE will be sending employees from all levels of the organization to attend. Among those who've attended multiple congresses is SSOE’s Greg Verhoff, Business Leader for SSOE’s Pharma and Life Science sectors, a founding member of the MEG and an internal champion of its mission. De Soto takes center stage: The colossal SSOE-designed Panasonic Energy of North America project was just highlighted in Engineering News-Record's Top 400 Sourcebook. Upon completion, this 4.7 million SF standalone plant—the largest investment in Kansas history—will boast a 30 GWh capacity for producing batteries for electric vehicles. This is an exciting spotlight as we inch closer to The Battery Show in Detroit, where we’ll be exhibiting beginning Monday, October 7th.

PRIDE in action: Last month, our PRIDE Employee Resource Group (ERG) hosted a STEM table at the Toledo Pride Festival. PRIDE, which stands for People Respecting Identities, Diversity, and Equality, is an employee-led inclusive community at SSOE that brings together LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies with a shared vision. A key focus of PRIDE is enhancing civic engagement. To this end, members and allies of the ERG dedicated their Friday night to connecting with the local community. They engaged kids in playful yet educational activities, sparking interest in STEM careers. #SSOEcares
