Stand.earth challenges corporations and governments to treat people and the environment with respect.
About us
Stand.earth challenges corporations and governments to treat people and the environment with respect, because our lives depend on it. Stand.earth is an advocacy organization made up of people challenging governments and corporations to make the health of our communities, our environment, and our climate the top priority. We are also #4 on Fast Company's 2023 list of Most Innovative Nonprofits. We protect the forests and the stable climate required to keep our planet — and us — thriving. Our campaigns challenge destructive corporate and governmental practices, demand accountability, and create solutions that support all of us, and the environment and climate we depend upon. We recognize and respect the sovereignty of First Nations and tribes, as well as the rights of indigenous people and frontline communities. These communities are often first and most directly impacted — and provide critical leadership in developing solutions.

The city of Barcelona is using its subway system’s regenerative braking to power trains, stations and a growing network of EV chargers. 🚊 ⚡️ “We’re trying to take advantage of the power that’s already in the metro system and use that spare energy to feed EV chargers on the street,” said Marc Iglesias, head of sustainable mobility at Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona. 📣 U.S. folks 📣 Voting up and down the ballot on Tuesday, Nov. 5 (or early or by mail if possible!) is a crucial collective action for us to protect our climate and communities ✊🏽 As they say: voting isn’t marriage; it’s public transportation. You’re not waiting for 'the one' who’s absolutely perfect; you’re taking the one that's going to get you closest to your destination. Together, let's move toward a climate-safe future.

🎉 🏆 Congratulations to the #UniteTheSwifties winners! 🥳🎊 Pilar, Michelle and Avery are three stellar #Swifties who took bold action alongside hundreds of others in this summer’s #UniteTheSwifties contest, organized in partnership with Change Course, Decolonial Solidarity and Stand.earth. Alongside 9,000 fellow participants, they took climate action throughout the summer to draw attention to the fact that the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) – a primary sponsor of Taylor’s Canadian #ErasTour – is Canada’s #1 fossil fuel financing bank, with billions in fossil fuel financing, weapons investments and Indigenous rights violations. RBC has bankrolled at least US$256 billion in fossil fuel deals since the Paris Climate Agreement in 2016 – which is why Swifties are calling on Taylor Swift to kick this dirty bank to the curb once and for all.

RBC, HSBC, and Goldman Sachs are among the top ten banks financing an emissions crisis at sea. International shipping is already one of the largest greenhouse gas (GHG) polluters in the world and the The International Council on Clean Transportation has shown in that LNG-fueled shipping is between 70% and 82% worse for the climate than oil-fueled business-as-usual shipping. Instead of spending $335 billion USD on accelerating the climate crisis and violating their own climate commitments, these financial institutions should be funding a clean energy transition for the maritime shipping industry. Stand.earth has published a new report which aims to ‘rank international banks in terms of how much they have financed maritime LNG’. https://lnkd.in/ebbDsHsV

Scientists are using the sounds of a healthy coral reef to bring degraded ones to life — a method known as “acoustic enrichment.” “Often we’re building new wild habitats, and hoping that wild animals come and settle in and make it a fully functioning ecosystem,” said Tim Lamont, a marine biologist at Lancaster Evironment Centre. “If we can speed up the rate at which they’ll settle into that habitat, then the process of holistic restoration will, in theory, happen faster.” #coralreefs Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eFwVYXrg

“Excluding pipelines and LNG terminals from future investments will help mitigate the systemic risks that climate change poses to the global economy and to New York City’s public pension funds,” said Office of the New York City Comptroller Brad Lander in announcing a first-in-the-nation policy proposal to ban new private equity investments in fossil fuels by the NYC pension funds. This is groundbreaking - and call out out funds like KKR, BlackRock, The Carlyle Group, and Brookfield Asset Management that you are going to lose an important partner if you don't clean up your funds. #esg #climatefinance #climate Stand.earth The Sunrise Project Inc. https://lnkd.in/gEFu89px
