Michelle K., Starlight Energy's Development Manager (Energy Storage), recently spoke at Energy Storage in Warsaw. Michelle shared her expert insights on the panel 'A Sleeping Giant? The Potential of Romania', exploring the opportunities and challenges for building out energy storage in Romania. Starlight has over 800MW of Solar PV and BESS projects under development in Romania, an emerging region for the build out of renewable energy infrastructure. Starlight Energy’s Global Managing Director, Gianluca Boccanera, was delighted to accept an award for the agrivoltaics project ‘Terra del Sole’ at the CEOforLIFE Awards in Rome yesterday.   The Terra del Sole project in Giugliano, Italy, is Starlight's innovative agrivoltaics initiative combining solar energy production with agriculture. Once constructed, it will feature over 142,000 bifacial photovoltaic modules for a total capacity of c.86.6MWp plus 23MW of battery storage facility, generating 155 GWh of clean energy annually - enough to power 55,000 households and reduce CO2 emissions by 83,000 tonnes. The project also supports local agriculture and education, promoting sustainable farming and providing training opportunities.   Gianluca was pleased to present the project in more depth at the event. 💡 Spotlight on the UK   As one of Starlight’s core markets, our pipeline in the UK currently stands at almost 3GW, which includes: ✅ 72MW Solar PV ✅ 1,170MW Solar & BESS ✅ 619MW of standalone BESS ✅ 10MW Green Hydrogen Through careful site selection and investment review, progress continues to be achieved even amidst growing demands and challenges from grid operators in areas such as land control, permitting processes, financial commitments, and warranties.   Looking ahead, Starlight is advancing its development efforts in both Solar PV and BESS, with a range of projects expected to be submitted into the planning process within the next few months. Spotlight on Italy   Starlight’s pipeline in Italy currently stands at more than 5 GW, this includes:   ✅ 850 MW of PV coupled with BESS ✅ 3 GW of offshore wind ✅ 570 MW of onshore wind and storage ✅ 850 MW of standalone BESS   To date, Starlight has secured full permitting for 200 MW of solar PV across 25 projects, marking a substantial contribution towards Italy’s ambitious renewable energy targets.   Italy has set a target of reaching 80 GW of solar energy by 2030, which will form the majority of its approximately 130 GW renewable energy mix. Stefano Pieroni, Business Development Director for Starlight in Italy spoke with NPM Europe (New Project Media) this month to explore the new regulatory frameworks and recent government decrees affecting renewable energy development in the region.   The Italian government has introduced new criteria for renewable energy projects and imposed restrictions on large-scale solar developments on agricultural land, aiming to balance environmental conservation with ambitious renewable energy targets.   Despite these changes, Starlight is well-positioned to continue its growth in the sector. Starlight’s strategic focus on agrivoltaics aligns perfectly with the new regulations, minimising any potential impact on new projects. Additionally, the recent acquisition of Entrope has expanded Starlight’s team to over 50 professionals, significantly enhancing development capabilities.
