IYCMI, the World Health Organization 2024 Global Tuberculosis Report highlighted promising strides in the TB response:   ✅ Gap between estimated and reported cases narrowed to a record low of 2.7 million ✅TB deaths fell globally, including a slight reduction among people living with HIV (from 167,000 in 2022 to 161,000 in 2023) ✅ 8.2 million people were newly diagnosed in 2023, up from 7.5 million in 2022   More work remains to address this public health threat. We are excited to feature some of the U.S. Department of State's partnerships with various actors, including international organizations, non-governmental organizations, and private sector entities. These partnerships are crucial for advancing U.S. foreign policy objectives and enhancing diplomatic efforts by leveraging additional resources and expertise. Partnerships build strong international relationships and promote peace and stability worldwide. Through Project Last Mile, the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) is scaling the impact of private sector expertise across borders. This approach isn’t just a one-off solution—it’s replicable! In countries like Côte d'Ivoire and South Africa, we’ve partnered with Project Last Mile to strengthen health systems and create sustainable impact by sharing the expertise and network of The Coca-Cola system. In Côte d’Ivoire, Project Last Mile is addressing challenges in the health supply chain by improving inventory management and reducing stockouts. By coaching staff in 39 health facilities, we’ve seen a 20% improvement in commodity order submissions and reduced stockouts of key HIV, family planning, and malaria commodities. In South Africa, where HIV prevalence remains high, Project Last Mile supports the National Department of Health’s Central Chronic Medicines Dispensing and Distribution program, known as Dablapmeds. By applying Coca-Cola’s logistics and retail expertise, the Dablapmeds program now provides 2.9 million active patients with easier access to medications through private sector pick-up points. Today, 64% of patients collect their medication this way, with 40% of antiretroviral therapy users benefiting from the program. ICYMI, UNAIDS and #PEPFAR recently published the full report “Equity in the HIV response: Assessing progress and charting a way forward." As the global fight against HIV continues, significant equity challenges remain. Some key takeaways: 📊 Disproportionate Impact: Key populations, though less than 5% of the global population, account for most new HIV infections. 🛑 Structural Barriers: Stigma, violence, and criminalization limit access to life-saving care. PEPFAR’s KP Action Plan addresses these barriers with new funding for structural interventions. 👥 Youth Involvement: It’s essential to include young people in HIV program design and implementation. PEPFAR’s Youth Initiative is engaging young people in the HIV response. 🛠 Holistic Support: PEPFAR’s programs like DREAMS for adolescent girls and young women -- as well as programs for orphans and vulnerable children -- provide comprehensive care, including mental health and social services. The fight is far from over. Equity efforts must be strengthened to ensure no one is left behind. ⚖️ Equitable Access Children and adolescents must have equitable access to HIV prevention, care, and treatment services. This morning, Secretary Blinken hosted a Ministerial with foreign ministers, senior diplomats, and leaders of international organizations at #UNGA79 to further diplomatic engagement in strengthening global health security.   Participants in the Foreign Ministry Channel (FMC) for Global Health Security discussed strengthening the global response to mpox, increasing financing and coordination for global health security – including via The Pandemic Fund – and implementing a robust FMC agenda in 2025 that reflects the priorities of FMC partner countries and international organizations.
