In March of this year, LaGuardia Community College unveiled plans for the Cohen Career Collective, a state-of-the-art workforce training center that will ensure economic mobility for New Yorkers while providing skilled workers for local employers. The Cohen Career Collective is made possible by a historic gift from the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, led by Foundation President and New York Mets owner Alex Cohen. As highlighted by Inside Philanthropy, the award magnifies the critical role of community colleges in providing opportunities for individuals that may face barriers to higher education elsewhere, but it also, “represents a monumental shift in philanthropic focus and how significant charitable contributions are allocated.” Read the entire article here: https://bit.ly/3ycliok #CohenGive

In honor of Pride Month, we are honored to share our latest grantee blog from the world’s largest non-profit community of LGBTQ+ individuals working in tech: Out in Tech Out in Tech matches LBGTQ+ youth (ages 17-24) with mentors to help them develop the technical and professional skills needed for launching a meaningful career in engineering, product design, fintech, media, AI, and more. Last year, the organization announced it had graduated its 1,000th mentee. Today, Out in Tech graciously agreed to share what 1,000+ mentorships taught them about decoding student success. #CohenGive #pridemonth

In honor of Lyme Disease Awareness Month, we are pleased to welcome the Mount Sinai Health System to our grantee blog. In 2023, the Cohen Center for Recovery From Complex Chronic Illnesses (CoRE) expanded to encompass research and clinical care beyond long COVID to include “long Lyme Disease/Lyme+” as well as other infection-associated complex chronic illnesses such as myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, and other tick-borne diseases. This enhanced understanding will help clinicians and researchers at Mount Sinai develop and test novel therapies for these conditions. #CohenGive #mountsinai #lymedisease #LymeDiseaseAwarenessMonth
