  • Ciera Whitmore is a wife and mother of two. She balances her career as an occupational therapist (OT) with helping on the family farm and running their local store, Whitmore Farms Market in Coyle, OK. These roles take up most of her time and are incredibly fulfilling. Yet, passion has propelled her to add advocate, fundraiser, and national speaker to the list as she fights for the vocation she loves. Whitmore knew she wanted to be a therapist from a young age when her sister, Karli, suffered an accident and spent two weeks on life support in the critical care unit. It was during this time that her eyes were opened to the caregivers surrounding patients in their journey back to health. Karli passed away, but the impact she made on Whitmore’s life remains. She now tells her patients that her darkest moment prepared her to help them through theirs. To read the full story, visit https://lnkd.in/guVUu8qu

For five decades, Joe Eastman has dedicated himself to the care of others, serving his community as a physical therapist. Over that time, he’s worked in small and large hospitals, intensive care units, wound care, pediatrics, orthopedics, ergonomics and more. But in every environment, he brings his secret ingredient to a fulfilling career: curiosity.  “Joe is an inspiration,” said Lisa Hughes the clinical manager of physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy services at Total Health. “You see his face light up when he talks about what he does. He’s always looking to improve and get better.”  Eastman says he fell into physical therapy when a friend at school had chosen it as a major. Eastman had a lot of interests in the classroom, but after taking a few introductory courses, he was hooked. He completed his education in physical therapy and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1974. But he says his education only took him so far. Once he started working one-on-one with patients, he discovered just how multifaceted this profession was. To read more, visit our website at https://lnkd.in/gzE-nsVf

The caregivers at Stillwater Medical Center have once again received the highest national ranking from the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke program for their commitment to providing quality stroke care. Their dedication ensures patients having an active stroke receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines. This ultimately leads to more lives being saved and reduces the risk of disabilities from strokes. “It takes a village to receive the GoldPlus standard in stroke care,” said July Stanley, Stroke Coordinator at Stillwater Medical Center. “It’s a team effort, including, but not limited to nursing, lab, EMS, registration, case management, pharmacy, physicians and advanced practice providers, therapists, imaging - it’s all hands-on deck. Every department works hard to streamline our processes and deliver prompt, high quality stroke care.” Stroke is the No. 5 cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the U.S. To read the full article, visit our blog at https://lnkd.in/g-SCxKaH.

Last week, Stillwater Medical hosted a very special Chamber After-Hours event inside our new Women’s Health Center waiting area. During the event, members of the Labor & Delivery team provided guided tours of our upgraded labor and delivery unit, which includes expansive delivery suites, postpartum recovery rooms, and brand new NICU incubators for newborns requiring additional support after birth. Guests also enjoyed refreshments and great conversation, and they left with a treat for later and some Stillwater Medical swag. Thanks to the immeasurable generosity of our sponsors, we’re able to continue advancing women and children’s care – right here at home.
