Advocacy journalism covering the movement to end car dependency in the United States.

About us

Streetsblog USA is a daily news site founded in 2006 that covers the movement to end car dependence in the United States, and to facilitate a just transition to a transportation system where everyone has meaningful access to mobility alternatives that meet their unique needs. Through hard-hitting reporting and insightful commentary, we make complex conversations about transportation reform accessible, emotional, and urgent. Our goal is to empower our readers with the perspective, inspiration, and resources they need to dismantle the structural forces that result in car dominance, both at the level of policy and in our culture more broadly. We reach millions of readers every year, including everyday people who just want more choices about how to get around, Beltway decision makers, built environment professionals, activists for safe, sustainable, and antiracist cities, and many more. Streetsblog USA is produced by OpenPlans, a 501c3 non-profit organization headquartered in New York City. We are funded by foundation grants, sponsorships and advertising, and generous donations from readers like you. Visit our regional partner sites — Streetsblog New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, California, and Chicago — for in-depth reporting on the movement to end car dependence in those communities. Our colleagues at Streetfilms produce video content on topics related to the Streetsblog mission in communities around the world.
