The suicide rate for construction workers is 4 times higher than in the general population, due in large part to work-related stresses such as seasonal work, demanding schedules and workplace injuries. Last week, Suffolk recognized Construction Suicide Prevention Week, which is dedicated to raising awareness about this pressing issue and providing our workforce with resources that can help prevent those deaths. Suffolk teams across the country facilitated safety standdowns throughout the week to discuss mental health and substance abuse trends that affect our industry, suicide risk factors and warning signs, and resources available to provide support and guidance to our Suffolk family and trade partners.
