Summit Early Learning Center was excited to receive a renewed grant from the Seigle Foundation in support of our speech and language programming. In the last school year, the preschoolers receiving speech and language support from Mrs. Bicbic and Mrs. Jackman saw a 15% decline in their concerns by May. The Seigle Foundation's gift also supported staff training and family education in language development. Thank you, Mark, Robin, and Karina for your partnership and belief in our students! We can't wait to share what the next year brings thanks to your generosity! Mark Seigle

Summit School’s high school students enjoyed a fun and meaningful experience this week when they visited John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. and toured the Fisher Nuts store and plant. Jeffrey Sanfilippo, Kelly Day, and Maria Avina welcomed our students and hosted a presentation about JBSS before the tour. This summer marks the beginning of our 7th year partnering with JBSS. Each year, 2-3 Summit seniors have worked within the corporate office and the Fisher Nuts store, building important work skills, social skills, and self-confidence. Even during the COVID pandemic, the JBSS team found creative ways to continue supporting our students’ growth. We are all so grateful for the genuine and caring JBSS team members who have, and continue to, help us build confident and capable members of their communities. We thank you for believing in Summit School and can’t wait for what year 7 brings! John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. Kelly Day

Many thanks to the Food for Greater Elgin (FFGE) team for providing a box of food and a gallon of milk to our at-risk Early Learning Center families. Summit School's seniors teamed up with Ray from FFGE to carry and load the food for families. The seniors enjoyed learning more about FFGE, and are already exploring more ways to help the client-choice food pantry serve our food-insecure neighbors. Summit and FFGE will be offering food distributions during pick-up every month. Preschool families interested in participating should contact Carla Hinojosa at chinojosa@summitelgin.org. To learn more about FFGE's client-choice food pantry, visit ffge.org.

We were saddened to learn today of the passing of former Summit School, Inc. CEO Dr. Joseph Scime. Joe led Summit's programs from 1992 through 2009, leading the organization through many changes. After assuming leadership from Summit founder Ruth Tofanelli, he spearheaded the addition of the early learning program, the growth of autism services, and the expansion of the board and strategic initiatives. Joe will forever be remembered as a "gruff but lovable," fair and loyal leader dedicated to the Summit mission and our students. Please join us in sharing our deepest condolences to the Scime family.
