At Sunflower Health Plan, our dedication to serving our members and the communities we call home is at the core of everything we do. This past month, our teams have been actively engaged across the state, contributing to the health and well-being of Kansans in meaningful ways. Empowering Youth at KidsTLC in Olathe On August 8th, our Quality Team had the privilege of participating in a Career Exploration Day at KidsTLC, a Pediatric Residential Treatment Facility in Olathe. This event was designed to inspire children in the program by exploring various career paths and essential life skills. Our team sponsored a booth focused on health and wellness, discussing the importance of regular checkups, immunizations, dental hygiene, and healthy lifestyle habits. To make the experience interactive, we provided mock eye exams, height measurements, and ended the day with a fun, educational treat—building personalized fruit pizzas. The day concluded with a game of bag toss, ensuring everyone left with a smile. Supporting Families at the Wyandotte County Back to School Fair Sunflower Health Plan was also proud to support the Wyandotte County Back to School Fair, a vital community event that provided school supplies, health services, and more to families preparing for the new school year. With an estimated 500-1,000 attendees, our team, with the partnership of @HyVee, distributed 5,000 pieces of fresh produce within just 2.5 hours, helping families start the school year on a healthy note. Collaborating with Project HOPE in Wichita Our commitment to Kansas extends to some of the state’s most vulnerable populations. Recently, our Community Relations team partnered with Project HOPE in Wichita for the Neighbor Resource Fair, an event dedicated to supporting the unhoused community. The fair offered medical screenings, insurance assistance, mental health services, and more, ensuring that those in need had access to essential resources. Whether it’s empowering youth, supporting families, or reaching out to those in need, Sunflowers commitment to our members and communities is unwavering. Sunflower Health Plan at Stand Up 2 Cancer Game! On July 14, our dedicated Sunflower Health Plan employees, Coddy Lehman, Sheryl Bittel, and Mary Jo Schmidtberger, proudly represented us at the Hays Larks annual Stand Up 2 Cancer baseball game. A special highlight of the evening was when our very own Brenda Mackey had the honor of throwing out the first pitch. Brenda's courageous battle with breast cancer has been a source of inspiration to many. Her willingness to step out of her comfort zone to bring awareness to those facing similar challenges embodies the true spirit of our community and the strength we strive to support at Sunflower Health Plan. We brought our #mobile #vision #van to town offering FREE vision screenings and prescription glasses for the community!
