We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Clifford Pearlman, one of the visionary founders of TCC Group, formerly known as The Conservation Company. Clifford played a pivotal role in shaping the firm’s mission and approach to strategic philanthropy and social investments, tailoring impactful strategies for corporations, foundations, government entities, and nonprofits across the arts, education, religion, and human services sectors. Richard Mittenthal, CEO of TCC Group, reflected that “working with Clifford for over ten years, I was continually struck by his serious commitment to the nonprofit sector in our country and his belief that our clients and partners could play important roles in improving society.” Our heartfelt condolences go out to Clifford’s family and all who were touched by his remarkable work and spirit. He will be profoundly missed.

Congrats Tamara Brown on 2 years at Longwood Foundation! We are thrilled to partner with you to strengthen grantees' capacity to achieve the greatest impact. We look forward to seeing where the next years take you!
I am celebrating 2 years at Longwood Foundation. During this time, I've been working on our Nonprofit Capacity Building work, anchoring the approach in Catalysts Together, a leadership program currently designed for DE and Kennett Square, PA nonprofit executive directors (Shameless Plug: Cohort 2 Applications are open until 8/15: https://lnkd.in/eDA58Nna) Rooting in the Foundation's values, I want to share some memorable moments during this time: Integrity and Respect I work alongside amazing colleagues at the Foundation! Whether we are grantmaking, executing strategy, or contributing to Catalysts Together, we "aspire to operate with high ethical standards, transparency, and accountability at all times". Thanks for leading an amazing team, Thère, and to Maria, Gail, Lauren, Sierra, Wes and Adara for making 1109 a place of fun and productivity. Collective Leadership THE NONPROFIT CAPACITY BUILDING TEAM! I cannot thank enough the consultants who honor the Foundation's values, trust my vision (and push me to be bolder), and bring their special expertise to table! This work is all about THE TEAM. Thank you to the Core Team: Gail, Cimone, Peter, Jamey, Jack, Chonnie, Genine, Dawn; The E. Coaches: Lenny, Lisa, Carrie, Ellen, Valarie, and Carol; and Vendors: TCC Group, Social Contract, Center for Creative Leadership, BrandSwan 🦢, and Emir. Take the Long-Term View I am experienced enough to know that support systems are crucial for goals and strategy. I've been grateful to get accepted into the 2023 Council on Foundations's prestigious Career Pathways program and the 2024 Leadership Delaware, Inc. class. Fully embracing these development opportunities has sharpened my abilities as a seasoned leader who boomeranged back into the philanthropic space! Also, shout out to my peers Yolanda and Kanani because iron sharpens iron! Be People-Centered "Reaching my full potential" at work means I can bring my personal values of love, responsibility, liberation, action and joy to work. I am thankful the Foundation embraces our needs to be present as parents/caregivers and to be an active contributors to our community. Occasionally, you may see one of my brilliant children in the office. They get to see all sides of their mama and in turn, they are inspired by what is possible for their own future. Continuous Improvement This year 20 dynamic leaders joined the inaugural and pilot group for Catalysts Together and contribute to the data that helps make the program most meaningful for the target audience. Not to mention, we've had the opportunity to learn more about who they are as leaders and the work they do, every day. THANK YOU! Take Ownership and Be Accountable After two years of progress, there is so much more to uncover, unpack, learn, discover, and execute. I look forward to what is ahead and thank you all for supporting me, the work, and the journey! With a #gratitiudeattitude, Tamara

Inside Philanthropy recently highlighted the pressing challenges faced by rural schools, including budget constraints, teacher shortages, and severe poverty, which are often exacerbated in these areas. Our recent paper, evaluating the Institute of Museum and Library Services Accelerating Promising Practices for Small and Rural Libraries (APP) Program explores how rural libraries, alongside schools, serve as critical hubs for their communities. Schools and libraries provide essential spaces in areas with limited infrastructure, and we examine how libraries can further enhance their role by developing community-prioritized services and transforming school-based libraries into vibrant centers of learning. https://lnkd.in/eDPV3qQm
Rural schools are the lifeblood of their communities, yet they often face significant challenges and resource constraints.
