Prepare students for tomorrow, Teach the future today!

About us

PREPARE STUDENTS FOR TOMORROW > TEACH THE FUTURE TODAY We believe that young people of any age can learn to think critically and creatively about the future and develop the agency to influence it. Do you feel the same? Join us in our worldwide mission to bring foresight and futures thinking to schools and students around the world. Teach the Future (TTF) is a non-profit collaboration among educators and community partners to encourage and support teachers and administrators to include the future in their classes and curriculum. We design and facilitate professional development for educators and workshops for students that introduce them to the concepts and tools of foresight. We also provide access to free teaching materials and support for educators who use the material or schools ready to incorporate foresight into their curriculum. TTF was established by Dr. Peter Bishop following his retirement from the Foresight program at the University of Houston after he directed that program for 30 years. Currently it is global collaborative with a team of leading educators and thought leaders in the futures community. Want to join? Please leave a message!

I am very pleased to share the report " Youth Foresight: Digital Future and Emerging Technologies in Argentina", which brings together the results of the foresight research project I worked on as part of the UNICEF Youth Foresight Fellowship program. This work was done based on a series of workshops with young people where we explored how they see the digital future, how the main emerging technologies can disrupt that future, and a series of recommendations for the main stakeholders that can influence in our country. I am honored to be able to publish this piece that reflects the learning and experiences I gained during this year and the importance of Foresight in young people. Many thanks to everyone who collaborated in putting the project together and especially to those who participated in the workshops! I invite you to read it and explore how technology could influence the future of our country. And I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the whole process 🩵 PS: I also provide you the link to the website where you can learn more briefly about the project and the main results: https://lnkd.in/dDNEvJXD

One's professional growth requires regular connections with people of like mind. To feel supported and appreciated should be an integral emotional part of any community, but for futurists, it is even more critical. Let me explain why. We deal with ephemeral things that do not exist and will never because as soon as a future comes, it turns into the present. In addition, futures studies still require much effort for implementation in certain parts of the world. Foresight is a community activity, not only for stakeholders but for consultants as well. That's why I appreciate what #TeachtheFuture does! Its monthly regular virtual meetings bring new contacts and ideas and build a sense of belonging. Many thanks to Lisa G., Lourdes Rodríguez Rodríguez, Peter Bishop, Amna Habiba, and all other friends from different hubs around the world for them!

A great definition and explanation of #futuresliteracy by Plurality University Network 👏🏼

What is Futures Literacy, anyway? For the “Future is Now” project, we had to make it clear to young participants, educators and youth workers. ⤵️ Drawing on the work of many great scholars and practitioners before us, this is what we wrote: 💡 “Futures Literacy is for everyone. It does not require full mastery of any specific 'futuring' technique, but is rather an evolving set of skills and experiences, mostly learned in action. It allows individuals to: - better understand the role that, through anticipation, the future plays in what they see and do; - understand the real-world effects of imagining futures; - articulate the differences between various uses of the future, depending on context and purpose.”   This definition helped us engage with partners with no previous background or even interest in foresight. To help even further, we created (in 2022) a small booklet that describes the characteristics of Futures Literacy and provides many examples of its usefulness to young persons. Read, circulate and use it freely!   The Future Is Now project has been led by YouthWatch, BrusselAVenir and Plurality University Network, and supported by the European Union’s Erasmus+ program. 💘 Authors: Daniel Kaplan Chloe Luchs Alexandra Kurišová Ellen Anthoni Khushboo Balwani Alena Tomanová 💘 💘 Graphic design: Benjamin de Moor

It was an amazing feeling to see my audience at the Kazakh National Pedagogical University today! originally, the list of the workshop participants included 107 (!) lectures to learn about foresight. But in reality it turned out to be a mixed audience, the faculty and students, and I was extremely happy! Our first day of the series on #TeachTheFuture, learn about #Foresight and #FuturesStudies was with many "wow!" effects, revelations, collaboration, and fun! It was also useful to brake barriers between two groups - the faculty and students and start working together!

Foresight practitioner, designer of Futures of Education 💭. I collaborate with organizations and individuals who seek to understand and anticipate the forces shaping the future of learning and education.

    UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education

Today, we celebrate #WorldTeachersDay 2024 at @UNESCO, recognizing the incredible contributions that teachers make in the intellectual and cultural development of societies.   Throughout history, educators like Aristotle, Confucius, and wise figures from indigenous cultures have shaped the values, ethics, and progress of civilizations. Today, teachers around the world carry forward that same noble mission - to educate, inspire, and nurture the next generation.   This is precisely why teachers matter so much.   My key message today is that teachers are not merely implementers of #education policy; they are leaders in shaping it.   𝗪𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀   This is particularly crucial in a world where technology -- including artificial intelligence -- is opening digital doors for billions of teachers and students, guiding them toward new dimensions of learning.   Teachers must continue to be the backbone that supports the education system. They are essential guides and facilitators of learning, instilling in our children and youth the critical thinking, ethical considerations, and problem-solving skills necessary for navigating an increasingly complex world.   𝗪𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀   Unfortunately, we are witnessing a troubling decline in the social status of the teaching profession, which affects both high- and low-income countries alike.   UNESCO’s Global Report on Teachers, launched earlier this year, revealed that 44 million teachers are missing to ensure universal primary and secondary education by 2030, and more importantly, teacher attrition is at an unprecedented level due to challenging working conditions, uncompetitive salaries, inadequate resources, and declining social recognition. Teachers are no longer regarded as intellectual leaders in public discourse.   𝗪𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲   UNESCO is working alongside partners like the International Labour Organization (ILO), UNICEF, and Education International to advocate for teacher rights, improve working conditions, and ensure teachers are at the table when education policies are made. As we look ahead to the Global Education Meeting in Fortaleza, Brazil, from 31 October to 1 November 2024, let us all commit to investing in teachers, listening to their insights, and creating a new social contract that uplifts and empowers educators everywhere.    Read more via the link posted in the comment below  👇
