Yesterday, we brought together our members from across the tech industry with our research grantees at the 2024 Tech Coalition Safe Online Research Fund Convening in London. It was a space for learning, translating, and making connections — building on the collective insights and experiences from both sectors. Key highlights: 💡Innovative strategies shared by Tech Coalition members and Research Fund grantees 🗯️In-depth technical workshops translating research insights into actionable industry practices 🤝Co-creating solutions to overcome barriers in research-industry collaboration, strengthening partnerships in the online safety landscape By aligning research with industry needs, we can drive forward practical, data-driven approaches that address emerging threats and create safer online spaces for children. The Tech Coalition facilitates the global tech industry’s fight against the online sexual abuse and exploitation of children. The Coalition is an alliance of technology companies of varying sizes and sectors that work together to drive critical advances in technology and adoption of best practices for keeping children safe online. We convene and align the global tech industry, pooling their knowledge and expertise, to help all our members better prevent, detect, report, and remove online child sexual abuse content. This coalition represents a powerful core of expertise that is moving the tech industry towards a digital world where children are free to play, learn, and explore without fear of harm.

Lantern is our groundbreaking cross-platform signal-sharing initiative, currently involving 22 tech companies to strengthen the collective response against online child sexual exploitation and abuse. We recently announced a pilot program to expand Lantern to include financial institutions in our efforts, broadening the program's impact. How to Start an Online Child Safety Program provides a high level overview of the first steps to put in place for combating online child sexual exploitation and abuse (OCSEA). Today we announced that Lantern is expanding to the financial sector. Block and Western Union have joined a pilot to see if ingesting signals from the tech industry will help stop financially motivated online child sexual exploitation and abuse, such as financial sextortion.
