A makerspace, manufacturing incubator, STEAM education center and creative community in Troy, NY
About us
Tech Valley Center of Gravity is a makerspace, manufacturing incubator, STEAM education center, and creative community located in the heart of downtown Troy, NY. The Center of Gravity (CoG) provides affordable access to workspace, manufacturing equipment, and training focused on practical skills and hands-on experience. Membership is open to startups and hobbyists alike. The only requirement is a passion to create! Our makerspace boasts over 10,000 square feet and $180,000 of fabrication equipment. We've organized them into technology zones: 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, Fiber Arts & Glass, Electronics, Model Shop, Welding, Wood Shop and Metal Shop. Our Coworking Zone provides open desk space, printers, a meeting room, and the 70 seat flexible use SEFCU Community Room. The Prototyping Center zone is designed to accomodate small batch manufacturing. It includes higher-end digital fabrication equipment as well as space for storage and assembly cells. This equipment is a great resource for existing businesses who can't procure their own, but would benefit from having access. Our Manufacturing Incubator program is a NYS-certified 16V business incubator providing coaching and risk mitigation for start-ups seeking industry expertise to bring their physical product to market and create a revenue generating business. Our program is independent, open to the public, and an approved Innovate 518 Partner, providing access to the affiliated programs and services of the region's NYS Hot Spot. The ThinQubator zone is our children’s makerspace, wherein we empower kids and families to think, tinker, collaborate, skill-build, design and make. ThinQubator is home to STEAM-Powered Saturdays, our free every-1st-Saturday drop-in program that invites children ages 4-12 and their families to join us for a fun STEAM-related facilitated project. It is also available for field trips and educational institutions. For more information, contact us at info@tvcog.net or 518-244-3544.

So exciting to see the progress from an idea to a functioning product! When they were just getting started, re:Charge joined TVCOG as Incubated Maker members, where they received guidance from one of our Manufacturing Mentors on converting a breadboard demo into a functioning prototype, advice on negotiating with contract manufacturers, and much more. How could your startup benefit from being a part of our creative community? https://lnkd.in/e6ivQTH #makerspace #capitalregion #prototyping #gocapny
re:Charge is pleased to announce the launch of the first universal wireless charging stations for shared electric micromobility in the US. Installed to support the Capital District Transportation Authority’s CDPHP Cycle! (www.cdphpcycle.org) bikeshare system, re:Charge’s universal wireless charging solution will make bikes accessible to more people while reducing the cost of bikeshare operations. Our launch ceremony will take place on Monday, July 1st, 2024, at 10 am at the Mohawk Valley Gateway Overlook near the intersection of Bridge Street and Minaville Street in Amsterdam, NY. If you are interested in attending the official launch, please email erin@innovantpr.com. This accomplishment would not have been possible without the support of the following organizations: WiBotic, the provider of our wireless power transfer technology. Drop Mobility, the ebike provider for CDPHP Cycle!, who helped us retrofit their excellent ebikes to receive power wirelessly. Shared Mobility Inc, the operator of CDPHP Cycle!, who provided valuable insight into the impact of battery charging on bikeshare operations. The City of Amsterdam, NY (www.amsterdamny.gov) for hosting our charging station and the launch event. And finally, a big shout out to the Capital District Transportation Authority (www.cdta.org), owner of the bikeshare system, for their leadership in integrating bikeshare into larger transit systems and their willingness to support efforts to make bikeshare better. What do we mean when we talk about digital fabrication? Digital fabrication is just another way to say using modern tech, tools, and programs to create something. 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC machines are at your fingertips if you just have the right training. Our Digital Fabrication for Artist Residency will give you that training for FREE through a series of classes. You’ll then have 24/7 access to a makerspace full of tools and tech, and $500 to make something with it. Applications due July 1st. For more information and to apply, go to www.tvcog.net/residency Made possible thanks to The Arts Center of the Capital Region, Arts Thrive and Grow grant, a program of NYS.
