Today at the AnitaB.org Grace Hopper Celebration, I presented the 7 A’s framework—a set of personal baselines that individuals can use to drive change and build a more equitable, secure, and fair future across any industry. Cyber professional to scientist?!? Absolutely! 💪 I’m taking the skills I’ve honed in cyber, policy, and project management and diving fully into a new world as a fellow. There are no limits to what we can learn and how hard we can go for our dreams! Using the 7 A’s framework, I’m ready to tackle critical issues in marine science, policy, and critical infrastructure on areas such as: 🪼 Awareness: Highlight the importance of recognizing the interconnectedness between cybersecurity, IT/OT security, and marine science in safeguarding coastal ecosystems. 🪸Accessibility: Focus on making secure technology and tools available to marine researchers, ensuring they have the resources to collect and share reliable information globally. 🪼Accountability: Emphasize securing systems that support marine research, not just to protect data but to uphold ethical standards and ensure research is conducted with integrity. 🪸Adaptability: Discuss how AI and cybersecurity technologies must evolve alongside changing environmental conditions to support resilient marine operations. 🪼Action: Stress the need for proactive measures in securing maritime infrastructure, emphasizing real-world applications of OT security to protect coastal communities. 🪸Advocacy: Advocate for stronger collaborations across disciplines, highlighting the role of technologists and scientists in pushing for resilient marine policies and infrastructure. 🪼Authenticity: Focus on building authentic collaborations between tech experts and marine scientists, fostering trust and ensuring the longevity of joint efforts to protect the ocean. 🪸Agency: Empower individuals and communities to take ownership of ocean protection efforts, giving them the tools and knowledge to actively shape the future of marine conservation. #BIMSTidalWave #OTSecurity #OpenSource #MaritimeResilience #OceanConservation #ClimateAdaptation #Blackscientist #NOAA #NatGeo #Discovery #cyberawarenessmonth #GHC24 #womeninSTEM

I spent the past week in Geneva, Switzerland for the Fall conference of the Emerging Leaders in Biosecurity (ELBI) Fellowship. It was an incredible opportunity to learn and discuss issues at the forefront of biosecurity with experts working at the WHO, UN, and the Implementation Support Unit for the Biological Weapons Convention. I am immensely grateful to Tom Inglesby and Anita Cicero for their leadership of the ELBI program. It is an incredible network of biosecurity leaders, and I am humbled to now be an alum. The concept of this bill was developed with the support of a fellow (Seeyew Mo), iterated on and introduced with the support of a fellow (Raine), and now pushed out of committee through my support. And that's just this bill...so much happened just today that fellows played a key role in. It is so neat to see the mark that all of these tech folks are making in Congress!
