With Veteran’s Day right around the corner, it's important to recognize the responsibility we have as a behavioral healthcare organization to serve those who have served us. Since 9/11, over 3.3 million veterans have served in uniform, yet less than 50% are enrolled in VA healthcare, and an estimated 41% need mental health care each year. At Televero Behavioral Health, we know that the mental health struggles veterans face—like PTSD, TBI, anxiety, and depression—deserve proactive, compassionate support. While legislation like the Hannon Act has expanded access to care, we know there’s still more to be done. We’re committed to providing specialized, individualized care for veterans, helping them transition from military life and addressing the unique mental health challenges they face. A recent study ranked Texas last in the nation for providing access to mental health services for college students, scoring 0.0 on a scale of 0 to 10. The lack of an available workforce and limited insurance coverage are major barriers, making it incredibly challenging for students to get the care they need. This comes at a time when many young adults are navigating the pressures of college life and living independently for the first time—circumstances that can heighten mental health struggles. While these statistics are concerning, there is hope. At Televero Health, we are committed to closing this gap by expanding access to telehealth services and working to connect students with the care they need. Our mission is to ensure students don’t just survive but thrive during their college years, with the right mental health support at their fingertips. Student mental health is a growing concern, but we have the power to change the trajectory by focusing on holistic, preventive approaches. Through partnerships, innovations, and continued advocacy, we can ensure that students have the support they need—emotionally, mentally, and physically. Over the last few decades, I have focused my career on building bridges between education and the broader community. For 16 years, I served as the Executive Director of the Texas Association of School Boards and for 24 years, I was the Director of Business & Education Outreach for the Texas Business & Education Coalition. Throughout my career, one thing has been clear: the health and wellbeing of students is significantly impacted by the support they receive from their educational institution. Now, as I continue my career as a Board Advisor for Student Mental Wellness at Televero Health, I hope to connect with fellow leaders in education and healthcare to build referral networks to ensure students have access to critical mental health resources. “The person who chases two rabbits catches neither.” – Confucius Focus is of the upmost importance when building a business. If you don’t learn when to say “no” or “not now,” you’ll find yourself being pulled in too many directions and distracted from your most important tasks. Trying to improve everything will put your company at risk. Selecting the critical few items to focus on is essential to success. I believe that a hierarchy of accountability can keep teams focused on what matters most. At Televero Health, it looks like this: 1. Accountability to yourself. If you tell yourself you’re going to do something, do it. 2. Accountability to your team. Your coworkers rely on you and trust you to do your part. 3. Accountability to our mission. The work we do serves our communities and contributes to the wellbeing of our patients. 4. Accountability to management.
