Mountains Not for Profit—our follow-up to In Pursuit of Soul—, is a short documentary from yours truly in partnership with the Indy Pass, that takes you inside four non-profit ski areas that are challenging the corporate-driven snow culture: Shames Mountain (BC), Whaleback (NH), Black Mountain of Maine, and Antelope Butte (WY). These mountains prove that passion, grit, and a true love for the sport are all you need to keep the snow culture alive. Powered by volunteer efforts, donations, and pure joy on the slopes, this is grassroots skiing at its best—where people and purpose fuel every powder day. Not driven by profit, but by the spirit of community, these mountains are where the heart and soul of skiing and snowboarding thrive, far from the distractions of mega-resorts. The Way Back is here! This film is more than a wild adventure—it's a heartfelt tribute to western heritage, connection to the land, and the healing power of nature. Follow Amy Jane David, Tatum Monod, and Emilé Zynobia as they embark on a late-spring horse-packing journey into Wyoming's rugged Range to ski three alpine peaks. Their route traces the history of Amy’s family, who homesteaded in these foothills in the early 1900s—building their own skis and using horses for winter survival. Along the way, Tatum and Emilé share their own stories, weaving themes of injury, grief, grit, and perseverance into the narrative. From sunrise ski missions to camp-to-camp horseback rides, the journey paints a vivid picture of transition: green valleys against stark white peaks, wildflowers blooming, and the ever-shifting paths that connect past and present. The title says it all: The Way Back—to heritage, simplicity, connection, and community.
