About us
The Bridgespan Group is a global nonprofit that strives to make the world more equitable and just. Since 2000, we have had the privilege of advising and collaborating with many of the world’s most extraordinary social change leaders including philanthropists, nonprofit and NGO leaders, and impact investors. We are passionate about helping social change leaders find solutions to economic and social barriers that perpetuate inequities and prevent individuals, families, and communities from having access to opportunities they need to thrive. We use rigorous research to gain insights that help our clients solve problems and achieve their goals. Our services include strategy consulting and advising, sourcing and diligence, and leadership team support. We take what we learn from this work and build on it with original research, identifying best practices and innovative ideas to share with the social sector.

Ready or not, US #ElectionDay is here. And with it, uncertainty for #nonprofit leaders. For #nonprofits where politics isn’t central to their mission, Bridgespan partner Laura Lanzerotti says that “just naming that this is a moment that we’re all going through feels like an incredibly critical #leadership move.” “These are the times that really test the culture of an organization,” says Ivan Canada, President and CEO of the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits. Canada has told his staff to be “mindful of what’s on the calendar for that week” and communicative about how they’re being affected. How are you preparing internally and externally for this week? 🗳 Election Week Survival Guide from The Chronicle of Philanthropy: 1. Acknowledge Reality: Recognize that the election affects your staff, regardless of your mission. 2. Plan Ahead: Make decisions now about policies, #communications, and contingency plans. 3. Create Safe Places: Enable dialogue without assuming all staff share the same views. 4. Build Partnerships: Connect with peers to support each other through uncertainty. 5. Stay Calm: Validate concerns while avoiding catastrophizing or feeding into panic. 6. Think Long-Term: Your core mission continues regardless of electoral outcomes.

I'm excited to share that the Philanthropic Collaborative Landscape has been refreshed for a new year--this year investigating questions around operational models. We hope collaborative giving vehicles find this a useful resource. Thanks so much to so many collaborative leaders who contributed to our survey, and to The Bridgespan Group colleagues Wendy Castillo, PhD, Gayle Martin, Carole Matthews, Gail Perreault (and many others) for their work on this, and to Jennifer Stout and Adriana L. García at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for their thought partnership and support.

Opinion: The fight for a multiracial democracy where all people can fully participate must continue long after Election Day, writes Cora Daniels. https://bit.ly/3YIlHtc Daniels is senior editorial director at the The Bridgespan Group and part of the firm’s research initiative to advance racial equity in philanthropy, including its “Dreaming in Color” podcast. She is the author of several books, including “Impolite Conversations: On Race, Politics, Sex, Money, and Religion.”

"Diversification is good" is the conventional wisdom when it comes to #nonprofit #fundraising. But is that how the biggest #nonprofits in the US achieved their success? Not according to our research. Too often, the intense pressure around funding leads to organizations substituting chance fundraising opportunities for thoughtful planning around a funding strategy. Instead, we’ve found that nonprofits often benefit from concentrating on just one or two revenue categories and building dedicated capabilities to match. 📄 Not sure where to start? This past summer, Bridgespan’s latest class of associate consultants (ACs) had the opportunity to gather in Boston for a new hire retreat and class expedition! ⠀ ⠀ AC retreats create a space for new associate consultants to meet fellow ACs through the scope of Bridgespan’s work and beyond. 🏞️ These new trail blazers spent a weekend together at a cabin in Rockport, MA, taking in sights from the seaside to the trailside. What activities help you feel a strong sense of community with your colleagues?⠀ ⠀ #consulting #lifeatbridgespan #consultinglife #bridgefam
