It's the last week of Black Philanthropy Month #BPM2024CLT and there's still time to support Black-led and Black-benefiting #nonprofits like Center for Community Transitions Support our #reentry #desistance programs by making a donation: https://lnkd.in/epp_GSkw 💡Did you know?💡 📖 A report by the The Bridgespan Group and Echoing Green found that the unrestricted net assets of Black-led organizations are 76% smaller than their White-led counterparts. 📖On average, Black-led organizations’ revenues are 24% smaller than those of their White-led peers. 📖Studies have shown that less than 1% of all foundation grant dollars in the US are allocated specifically to #reentry efforts. By shining a spotlight on the importance of Black giving and philanthropy, #BPM2024CLT is helping raise awareness about the unique challenges Black-led organizations encounter, including limited access to funding, smaller budgets, and fewer financial reserves. During our year long 50th anniversary celebration, we invite you to 'Own the Journey' with us and help make Charlotte a true second chance city: https://lnkd.in/epp_GSkw

💫 We're thrilled to announce SHRM President & CEO, Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP will keynote our 50th anniversary celebration gala on Friday, November 1st at Wells Fargo in #Charlotte. “As the U.S. faces a declining birth rate and resulting talent shortage, hiring justice-impacted individuals has become a business imperative. We need all willing and able individuals to join the labor force as productive and engaged members. This means looking at #untappedtalent pools and how we can expand opportunities to join the workforce by investing in skills-first initiatives, apprenticeships and, yes, second-chance hiring. And once we get this talent in the door, we need to be sure we have inclusive cultures waiting to welcome them into the fold.,” Taylor said. SHRM research found that: ⏺ 82% of Americans said they would feel comfortable patronizing a business that is known to give those with a criminal record a second chance up from 75% in 2019. ⏺Many people with criminal records are underemployed or in insecure jobs. ⏺26% of managers and 14% of HR professionals are unwilling to hire people with criminal records For five decades, CCT has been on the front lines of helping Charlotte become a true second chance city. Today, with 1/3 of working age adults in the United States living with a criminal conviction record, we’re inviting YOU to 🛣 Own the Journey forward with us and our local #reentry partners as we continue the work of expanding pathways to #economicmobility for individuals and families in our community who are impacted by #criminaljustice involvement. Secure a sponsorship or purchase a table by sending an email to kgreene@centerforcommunitytransitions.org. Individual tickets will be available for online purchase in early September: https://lnkd.in/eusNih3t

This weekend was a celebratory one at Center for Community Transitions as we cheered (with sparking cider🥂) 3 residents nearing the end of their time at our Center for Women residential #reentry program in #Charlotte! Since 1987 when it opened, our Center for Women residential work release program, the only pre-release program of its kind in the state of #NorthCarolina, has provided comprehensive pre-release reentry support to currently #incarcerated women as they prepare to return home to their families and back into the community. Join us in congratulating them by dropping a 💙 in the comments! You can also support our work by making a donation during the entire month of August, which is Black Philanthropy Month #BPM2024CLT: https://lnkd.in/eeG9qjAW

This week, our executive director hosted the Mecklenburg County Criminal Justice Community Engagement Task Group (CETG) meeting on our campus. Created in 2021 as part of the County's Safety and Justice Challenge Initiative, funded by MacArthur Foundation, the CETG focuses on supporting neighborhoods in identifying gaps and resources needed to build a viable, sustainable, and equitable greater Mecklenburg County #community through engagement, education, and empowerment. As we continue to celebrate our 50th anniversary this year, we invite YOU to join CCT in Owning the Journey toward making Charlotte a city of #secondchances by engaging with CETG events!
