The Children's Partnership (TCP) reposted this
So grateful for the young people that led the way - the Hope, Healing and Health Collective in partnership with the National Black Women's Justice Institute and the California Children's Trust Youth Council - and the strong partnerships with community orgs and statewide advocates that made this The Children's Partnership (TCP) and California Department of Health Care Services opportunity possible. Looking forward to the lessons and insights from these 8 schools. Let's lift up what works and change our systems so every young person, wherever they are located, have the supports and services they need to thrive.
I'm forever in awe of the young people who every day focus our attention on ways they can help one another. Today they get to celebrate a big win. The Children's Partnership (TCP) and California Department of Health Care Services are doing what we all should do - listening to kids, and then figuring out how to fund what they tell us they need. Peer-to-Peer interventions are proven, inexpensive, and help kids take control of their own mental health in safe and supportive environments. With this $8 million investment, school based Peer-to-Peer programs are going to help countless young people. Congrats to everyone involved.

“I’m thrilled to partner with the Department of Health Care Services to invest in the vision of these eight diverse school communities and the young people in them” - Raven Jones, TCP Director of Peer-to-Peer Youth Mental Health Everyone here is feeling just as excited as Raven! Why? On this Mental Health Day, we're spotlighting a program that gives California youth a leg up on finding positive mental health outcomes. We've launched an $8 million Peer-to-Peer Youth Mental Health Pilot that students from 8 California schools will benefit from. Peer-to-Peer empowers students to support each other, building community-driven mental health solutions. By centering youth voices, we’re fostering hope, healing, and wellness in schools—a vital step toward improving mental health for all. Let’s celebrate these efforts and the brighter mental health future they bring! #MentalHealthDay You can learn more about the program and the schools involved here: https://lnkd.in/g62XxiCK

California's #Proposition35 sounds great, but it's a complex initiative that that puts Medi-Cal funding at risk, especially for vulnerable Californians, community health workers, in-home nursing support, young children's health coverage enrollment & more. Here's what our president Mayra E Alvarez has to say.

Immigrants and their families face unique and challenging mental health concerns. Policy solutions to address their needs have been few and far between. The Policy Framework for Immigrant Mental Health, developed by Center for Law and Social Policy and partners, gives us a roadmap: https://lnkd.in/g6UTRX43 We are grateful for the inclusion on AB665 in this framework!
