Our mission: Control and eliminate the most prevalent neglected diseases (NTDs)

About us

The END Fund is a leading collaborative philanthropic fund dedicated to ending neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) that limit the lives and livelihoods of 1.7 billion people globally. Through our partners, we support country-led programs that control and eliminate intestinal worms, schistosomiasis, lymphatic filariasis, river blindness, trachoma, and visceral leishmaniasis. We efficiently put private capital to work in support of NTD programs that are innovative, integrated, cost-effective, and sustainable. By facilitating strong partnerships with governments, private sector, multilateral organizations, and local program partners, we collaboratively support national disease programs that improve the well-being of communities.

Today is first ever DAF Day! The END Fund is collaborating with Chariot in the launch of the inaugural DAF Day, a new kind of giving day that reframes how donor-advised funds (DAFs) are used. DAFs are charitable giving accounts - similar to retirement accounts - that have rapidly expanded in recent years. We are joining other top non-profits and donor-advised funds to boost the use of DAFs and make October 10th a transformative day of unprecedented generosity. This movement comes at a critical time for our mission. With many countries within striking distance of finally seeing an end to neglected tropical diseases, DAFs can help give our partners the jolt needed to reach the finish line. By investing in the END Fund, you will be joining a philanthropic community that values large-scale solutions and makes an outsized impact larger than any one person can do alone. We are encouraging investors with any DAF to sign up on DAFday.com in support of the END Fund.

Interim CEO at The END Fund

It was deeply energizing to see so many in my network at last week’s #UNGA79 side events in NYC, concluding with a joyful reception cohosted by The END Fund and AMREF. Thanks to dynamic leadership and global and local collaboration, NTD elimination is within reach in many countries. The END Fund Board Chair, Tsitsi Masiyiwa, along with Dr. Githinji Gitahi of AMREF, Joy Phumaphi of African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA), and Dr. Isatou Touray of Uniting to Combat Neglected Tropical Diseases, candidly reaffirmed our strong camaraderie and commitment to collaboration. Together, this sector will continue to drive progress and build momentum towards our shared vision of the African Union's Agenda 2063. Thank you all for your partnership!

Gender barriers in the health sector are acute; women, while dominating the workforce – occupying 70 percent of roles in the sector – conspicuously fall out of the picture when it comes to leadership positions. Women only hold 25 percent of leadership roles. The global gender pay gap, which stands at about 16 percent, is several points higher in healthcare at 24 percent. Explore with us as we take a deep dive into the mentorship programs that are working to bridge this divide. https://bit.ly/3XIsam8

Before the creation of Rwanda’s neglected tropical disease program in 2007, there had been little research on two debilitating parasites running rampant throughout the country: intestinal worms and schistosomiasis. But in 2019, the Rwandan government began financing 100% of the operational costs related to mass treatment campaigns that have successfully curtailed these parasitic infections. Through Rwanda's continued investment, schistosomiasis has reached a threshold of elimination as a public health problem, meaning prevalence has been reduced to below 1% of heavy intensity infections in 97% of surveyed villages according to remapping in 2020. This outcome follows years of effective treatment campaigns that were the result of Rwanda's steadfast commitment to elimination. Deputy Director, Giving Opportunities & Gates Philanthropy Partners at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Every year, we at Gates Philanthropy Partners (GPP) take the time to reflect on the impact and accomplishments we’ve achieved in partnership with our donor community over the previous year. In celebration of our joint commitment to create a lasting impact worldwide, I’m excited to share the GPP 2023 Impact Report with you today. Within this year’s report, you will uncover stories about generosity in action. For example, one partner was determined to address the growing refugee crisis, and we paired them with a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation investment in the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency to create safe sanitation and hygiene access for women and girls in Cox’s Bazar, a Rohingya refugee settlement in Bangladesh. Sanitation is a human right—and should be the last concern for those risking their lives to seek safety and freedom. That’s just one story. You can see more highlights in my article, or dive into reading the full report: https://lnkd.in/eryhtpsT Thank you to our many partners who inspire me every day through their generosity, courage, and commitment to making this world a better place. And to our donors who make it all possible.

There is no debating that climate change is impacting global health. "The END Fund is facilitating one of the largest public-private-philanthropic partnerships in global health. By pooling philanthropic capital with drug donations in support of national and community health programmes, we are able to treat hundreds of millions of people annually, advancing disease elimination, improving school attendance and boosting economic productivity. Seeking an equitable policy agenda and urgent global climate response, we support the leadership of communities whose health is most at risk by climate change yet contribute least to its causes." - Sam Mayer, Vice President, Global Strategic Partnerships, The END Fund Read more in the World Economic Forum's blog about what the END Fund is doing to combat climate change's health impacts. https://bit.ly/3XDUhme
