The Bar News is here to make election season easy to understand. Earlier, we shared the results of the PD and state attorney races. This article delves into the judicial race results and tells you which — if any — potential judges will be on your ballot in November. https://lnkd.in/eup-PCkR

Listen up, lawyers! There are many ways to get involved and give back to your community, and one way is to get involved with your circuit or DCA JNC! As a member of a JNC, you will help review applications for judges and send recommendations to the Governor for appointment. The BOG is currently seeking applicants for 20 seats on 13 JNCs. To be considered, you must be a member of The Florida Bar, engaged in the practice of law, and a geographical resident of the JNC for which you applied to serve. https://lnkd.in/emd74Rdw

On August 2, the Cuban American Bar Association held its 2024 Judicial Forum and Luncheon. A full day of CLEs included a wide span of legal leaders, including Florida Supreme Court Justice John D. Couriel and our very own Florida Bar President Roland Sanchez Medina, Jr.! 🤩 After a day of CLEs, judicial and clerk of court candidates were able to discuss their experience and records. “The forum is important considering these races are the most difficult for people to figure out who deserves their vote,” said CABA President Javier Ley-Soto. “It was insightful to learn more about the candidates and incumbents alike and consider valuable insight on their record.” https://lnkd.in/e79R9cPD

Marvin Exantus, a rising senior at Ft. Lauderdale High School's pre-law magnet program, recently won the Ninth Annual Gladiator International Mock Trial Competition. He is the first winner from Broward County and only the second from Florida out of over 300 competitors since 2015. One of his coaches, Gabrielle Higgins, said, "he dreams of using these skills to make a difference in his community." She also noted that he will not only be a first-generation law school student but also a first-generation college student when he attends next fall. https://lnkd.in/efiXCMEw

Jet lag and a rocky readjustment to the Eastern Time Zone haven’t dulled Miami lawyer Alan Fertel’s Olympic high. “I’m riding this post-Olympic crest,” he said. “You say to yourself, ‘was it dream? Was it a fantasy?’ And it turns out, it was real.” As chair of the sports, arts and entertainment and family law groups for Weiss Serota Helfman Cole & Bierman, Fertel attended the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris to support his clients, USA Swimming standouts Caleb Dressel of Gainesville and Bobby Finke of Clearwater. Find the whole story in the Bar News in the link in our bio!
