On July 14 and 15, 2024, the cities of Obock and Tadjourah in Djibouti marked a major milestone in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV). The regional branches of the National Union of Djiboutian Women (UNFD) for victim support were inaugurated, in partnership with USAID. This crucial step decentralizes support services, bringing psychological, medical, legal, and social aid closer to those in need.
Prominent figures, including Mrs. Anissa Hassan (Secretary General of the Ministry of Women and Family), Mrs. Fatouma Moussa (Secretary General of the UNFD), and Mr. Dahir Meraneh (Deputy Chief of the USAID Civil Society Engagement project), attended the ceremonies. The branches will raise community awareness, build strategic partnerships, and improve access to information and resources for victims.
Supported by the USAID Civil Society Engagement project, this initiative is vital for protecting and supporting GBV victims, transforming lives, and strengthening community resilience. Together, we are making Djibouti a safer place for all.
