The Longleaf Alliance is thrilled to be a part of this collaboration to restore longleaf across the range, specifically facilitating three projects in this year’s Longleaf Landscape Stewardship Fund grant slate, totaling over $7.3 million to support our work in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and South Carolina. “We are grateful to have this continued support from our long-time partners at the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation. The funding provided through these three grant projects will directly impact the work that our TLA Team, along with a diverse group of collaborators, does to bring about meaningful change for the longleaf ecosystem and for the communities that rely on these forests across the Southeast," said Carol Denhof, President of The Longleaf Alliance. Our newest Longleaf Academy – Fire & Longleaf 301 – was a collaborative success! This 3-day course was designed for experienced fire practitioners to take their prescribed burning “beyond the black." Topics included: - Fire-dependent species and habitats - Re-introducing fire to long unburned ecosystems - Seasonal effects on native groundcover - Smoke management standards - Strategic burn planning - Burning imbedded ecosystems effectively - Patch burning and mosaic effects for wildlife - Fire and Invasive species - Fire surrogate treatments

It is an honor to be part of the inaugural HCLTech Grant Americas recipients. This grant will allow us to provide resources to historically underserved landowners, will help identify threats to existing forests, and restore longleaf forests for climate mitigation, biodiversity, and all the values these forests provide. EXCITING NEWS! The Longleaf Alliance is one of 20 Forest Landowner Support projects announced by the USDA Forest Service to support equitable access to emerging climate markets.   With this funding, The Alliance will: + Collaborate with Georgia Heirs Property Law Center to increase opportunities for underserved and small-acreage landowners to participate in emerging markets for longleaf pine products. + Pilot a framework for biodiversity credits in longleaf ecosystems in partnership with Milliken Advisors, Dr. Stacey Lance at UGA Savannah River Ecology Laboratory, Dr. John Quinn at Furman University, and The Jones Center at Ichauway.   More at https://lnkd.in/e8rNXg5D In addition to the $116 million in funding announced last week, the U.S. Forest Service is also accepting proposals for up to $2 million from other applicants before August 21st. Details at https://lnkd.in/gPDYYAUQ

🎉 Ian Warr, a graduate student at the the University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, and studying at the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory, has been awarded the Owen Fellowship by The Longleaf Alliance. The fellowship will support his MS research, which is focused on understanding belowground carbohydrate storage reserves across different longleaf pine life history stages. The Owen Fellowship is a prestigious program that helps develop the next generation of longleaf pine restoration professionals and researchers. Ian received $20,000 in funding to support his research and travel expenses to attend upcoming Longleaf Alliance meetings. This award is highly competitive and sought-after, with only one recipient every two years. I enjoyed learning about long leaf pines with The Longleaf Alliance and Climate Smart Grown SC with Sustain SC and The Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities at Furman University the Sustainability Leadership Initiative (SLI) in Beaufort, SC. The Climate-Smart Grown in SC is a pilot project designed to increase the acreage and number of farmers in South Carolina using climate-smart practices. This collaboration between Clemson University and SC State University is funded by the USDA-NRCS Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities and focuses on the production of peanuts, leafy greens, forages for beef cattle, and forest products. Glad to see South Carolina incentivizing landowners and farmers to sequester carbon. #sustainability #sustainablebusiness #conservation #sustainsc
