This week we met again with community foundations across the country at CFLeads' Gun Violence Prevention Network meeting. We're grateful to be a part of the conversation, learning and sharing gun violence prevention strategies and initiatives. A big thank you to all the participants!

We're thrilled to celebrate the latest groundbreaking research from The Wistar Institute, supported by the Robert I. Jacobs Fund of the Philadelphia Foundation. Under the guidance of Dr. Luis Montaner, the team has successfully cloned new antibodies that could lead to future treatments for a variety of health conditions. This innovative work highlights the potential to improve how we understand and fight diseases like HIV, cancer, and autoimmune disorders. We're honored that support from the Jacobs Fund, which promotes and funds AIDS research, has contributed to this breakthrough. Clients Philadelphia Foundation & its Civic Coalition to Save Lives share their latest update, including $800,000 in recent investments by the Coalition to build #capacity for grassroots programs & promising initiatives. We're so happy for the 35th Cohort of the New Leash on Life USA Prison Reentry Program at the Philadelphia Department of Prisons who graduated earlier this week! Members of our team at the Philadelphia Foundation joined the graduates, their families, dog adopters, and program staff to celebrate this milestone. Over three transformative months, participants not only cared for and trained rescue dogs, but also engaged in numerous workshops. Following their release on parole, they embarked on another three months of reentry services, including paid internships and personalized case management. Our heartfelt congratulations to the graduates and their furry companions—Barnacle, Halibut ("Hallie"), Finn, Coral, and Shamu—who have all found their forever homes 🐶🏡 #Philadelphia #GreaterPhiladelphia #NewLeashOnLife #ReentryProgram

This month, we're celebrating significant strides in missions to reduce violence and offer support to those affected. Here are some highlights: 🗝️Philadelphia Sees Decrease in Violence So far in 2024, Philadelphia has continued its downward trend in gun violence, approaching lows not seen in nine years. 🗝️ EMIR Healing Center's Philly Day of Hope On September 21st, The EMIR Healing Center will host its annual Day of Hope to support families and communities impacted by gun violence. With over 350 survivors attending, the event will feature trauma-informed care, local businesses offering opportunities, and much more. 🗝️Investing in Intervention Initiatives The Coalition has invested more than $800,000 in crucial programs like: Eddie’s House: $30,000 for housing support. Beat the Block: $125,000 for workforce initiatives. EMIR Healing Center: $50,000 for IT enhancements. 🗝️State Grants for Gun Violence Reduction The Shapiro-Davis Administration announced $56.5 million for violence prevention and youth programs, creating supportive environments and reducing violence.
