A stunning herd of elephants from India is now on display at Miami Beach, Florida. These life-size sculptures, created by 200 Indigenous artisans from the Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu, are made from lantana camara—an invasive weed damaging ecosystems. Designed by Shubhra Nayar, each elephant represents one from the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. This plant, once a threat, is now a symbol of biodiversity restoration, hope, and resilience. Coexistence is a beautiful story even if it's not a simple one. Being based in a town at the edge of forests, we are familiar with its nuances both beautiful and challenging, and are constantly enriched by our interactions with what's wild within and without us! Rather than a world split into natural and non-natural, a healthy mosaic of the natural interwoven into the growing world means better health for humans and the environment. This project has been slowly growing its wings for over two years, weaving together intricate stories of Coexistence across the home range of the Asian elephant from the Western Ghats to south East Asia. Stay tuned for more as it grows. Our project takes the story of Coexistence from the obvious spaces shared by humans and wildlife to the balconies of apartments to empty plots in cities, and impenetrable forests rich with biodiversity. Introducing The Coexistence World of All Who Lives With Asian Elephants. #coexistence #asianelephant #artforconservation
