Last week, I attended the Brooklyn viewing of the Trail Running Film Festival, where The Runner's Apothecary was a local co-sponsor 💚 ! The films were beautiful and informative, ranging in topics from the indigeneity of trail running to disability access. While I am not quite ready to enter the world of trail running, I am a treadmill girlie after all, the films did leave me with a few lessons. 1. Like many adventure- and/or high impact sports, trail running pushes you to your limits both mentally and physically. It reminds you of your capacity and strength. What is something in your past or in your present that reminds you of your power? 💪🏾 2. It (life, parenthood, anything worth pursuing) takes a village. One of the films focused on one para athlete's attempt to complete a 100-mile trail race. His support crew did everything from making sure he was fueling properly, to changing his bandages, to at times running alongside him. Who is a part of your support team and how are you in support of others? 🤝 3. The shortest film of the set was not even 2 min long and was called Run Like A Kid. It was a beautiful reminder of the importance of play. These are heavy times. While it might be tempting to work ourselves to exhaustion, the change we seek requires us to find moments for rest. How are you taking care of yourself + how can play be a part of your toolkit? 🏐 If you can check out the Trail Running Film Festival, I highly recommend you do.
