The Point of the Mountain State Land Authority (Land Authority) Board appointed Michael Ambre as interim director of the Land Authority, effective July 22, 2024. Michael currently serves as a member of the Land Authority board, representing the Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management (DFCM) where he serves as division director. Michael will serve in both capacities until a new executive director is selected by the board. Michael is an accomplished and results-driven project leader with a distinguished career marked by expertise in state procurement, contract administration, various construction delivery methods, and exceptional team performance. As an effective team leader, Michael is dedicated to fostering positive collaborative experiences and recognizes the importance of relationship building. He has served as the DFCM lead for The Point project and is well versed in the project. For the last five years, the Point of the Mountain State Land Authority (Land Authority) has been expertly led by Alan Matheson. His visionary, collaborative, transparent and thoughtful leadership has guided this development from concept to construction. He has helped lay the foundation for this transformative project, which will have a multi-generational impact and deliver massive economic returns to taxpayers. His key accomplishments, under the direction of the Land Authority board, include: ➡️ Successfully took down the former state prison, recycling 76% of the building materials. ➡️ Assembled an exceptional team of staff and consultants, bringing top-level expertise to the project. ➡️ Engaged over 16,000 residents who provided their vision, hopes and ideas for The Point. ➡️ Created a compelling plan for The Point, reflecting legislative and public priorities, that Fast Company Magazine named a “world-changing idea”. ➡️ Conducted a robust process to select a Phase 1 development partner and negotiated a complex development agreement that advances Utah’s interests. ➡️ Worked in partnership with the Utah Legislature to secure funding for critical infrastructure that will be paid back to taxpayers with interest. ➡️ Designed a future-focused transportation system—including new freeway and road access, a FrontRunner station, light-rail transit, internal circulator, micro-mobility hubs, walkable and bikeable streets, and even advanced air mobility—that significantly reduces traffic. ➡️ Worked with the Utah System of Higher Education to design Convergence Hall—the heart of the Point’s innovation district. ➡️ Approved a detailed plan for Phase 1 that includes a mixed-use core with world-class shopping, restaurants, office buildings, residences, entertainment venues, parks, trails, and transit. ➡️ Established open and transparent meetings and processes to allow Utah residents to follow, contribute to and have confidence in their project—The Point. We are deeply grateful to Alan for laying the foundation for The Point and recognize his tremendous efforts that all Utahns will benefit from. We wish him well as he moves on to support @riotintokennecott in his new role there.

The Point of the Mountain State Land Authority (Land Authority) has initiated a nationwide search for an Executive Director to oversee all aspects of development at The Point—a high-profile mixed-use innovation community on 600 acres of state-owned land located in Draper, UT. The Land Authority is an independent, nonprofit, political subdivision of the State of Utah responsible for planning and implementing The Point. The Executive Director will assist the Land Authority in achieving its public purpose of working with private and public stakeholders to facilitate development that maximizes long-term economic growth, high-quality job creation, innovation, quality-of-life and other benefits for the state.
