Our words matter—especially when talking about climate solutions. 🔬A study by the University of Cambridge showed that nature-based solutions evoked more positive emotions like joy when discussing climate change solutions. This result differed from human-based technological solutions that evoked more negative emotions like disgust. 🌱This study highlights that many people feel more aligned with solutions that partner with and support nature. This is our chance to spotlight and promote nature-based solutions to a broader audience. COP16 will focus on turning the promises made in the 2022 Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework into real, actionable steps. As carbon emissions rise, our planet warms—and nowhere is this more devastating than in our polar regions like Antarctica. This icy wilderness is vital for regulating our climate and maintaining the health of our oceans, but it’s under severe threat from rising temperatures, melting ice, and overfishing. Right now, we have a historic opportunity to protect it. The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) is currently convening in Hobart, Australia. Today is the 52nd anniversary of the Marine Mammal Protection Act! This was enacted and is implemented by NOAA Fisheries, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services, and Marine Mammal Commission. 🐋 Marine mammals are essential for a healthy ocean ecosystem. Every ocean animal and species supports the ecosystem in various ways. For example, whales can capture large amounts of carbon and provide nutrients to deeper ocean depths through fecal matter. ✍️ Having good policies allows for protecting and conserving a healthy planet.
