About us

Located in southern Granville County, the Town of Butner offers its residents a high quality of life attributed to its rich history, the ideals of small town living with the ease of being just minutes from the Triangle, and its vision for the future. Located less than thirty minutes from Durham with easy access to I-85, Butner invites you to experience the opportunities the employment, recreation, and housing offered here! Originally an agricultural community, it became a training camp during World War II known as Camp Butner. Part of the camp remains and is used as a training facility for branches of the military and various divisions of law enforcement. Given its proximity to Research Triangle Park (RTP), local universities and major transportation thoroughfares, Butner is the industrial hub of southern Granville County. Founded in 1949, Newton Instrument has endured and prospered as its manufacturing goals and processes changed, now focused on telecommunication equipment components. Carolina Sunrock‘s facility is the only pure trap rock quarry in the Southeast, from Manassas, VA all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. The quarry produces a wide variety of construction materials including asphalt aggregates, concrete aggregates and more. Altec, a leading provider of products and services to telecommunications, tree care, electric utilities, and contractor markets, is headquartered in Butner. AMT Group, Inc, located on East Lyon Station Road, is a management company that oversees general operation practices of four entities. Each entity manufactures a full range of products that serve the Scientific, Medical, Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology and Forensic market segments.

MSW Pipe- and Profile Systems Corp., a family-owned business from rural Germany, has selected Granville County for its expansion into the United States. The company, known for producing high-quality plastic pipes and profiles, will establish its first U.S. location on East Lyon Station Road in the Town of Butner. This new facility will initially serve as a logistics and warehouse hub with future plans for local manufacturing and extrusion operations. MSW plans to create ten new jobs at the outset and anticipates that number will double once manufacturing operations begin at the Granville facility. “MSW will make a fantastic addition to the growing and diverse employer base in Granville County,” said Chair of the Granville County Board of Commissioners Timothy Karan. “Having a growing and ambitious family-owned company like MSW choose Granville County and Butner for their U.S. expansion shows that our area is perfect for establishing a presence on the east coast. Easy access to air, rail, port, and highway transportation makes Granville County the perfect place for MSW to establish their logistical presence in the United States. We are confident that our region can easily provide the necessary workforce for warehouse, office, and future manufacturing operations needed by MSW.” "We are grateful that MSW has chosen the Town of Butner as the location for their first U.S. based facility,” said Town of Butner Mayor Linda Jordon. “We are excited about the opportunities MSW’s presence will bring, including new jobs and economic growth, and we look forward to a successful partnership." The products, manufactured at MSW's headquarters in Germany, will be shipped via sea containers to the Granville warehouse, where they will be distributed across the U.S. market. Sales will be led by the company’s long-time U.S.-based representative, Scott Lusk, who has been instrumental in building relationships with American clients. "We're excited to bring our products and expertise to the U.S. market," said Stefan Holtvoigt, owner of MSW Pipe- and Profile Systems Corp. "When I visited Granville County, I immediately felt at home. The rural surroundings reminded me of where our company began in Germany, and the location’s excellent transportation links make it the perfect place to grow our business." To support this expansion, MSW will be hiring for key positions, including warehouse staff and back-office employees, in the early stages of the operation. The company is committed to investing in the local economy and looks forward to expanding its workforce as operations grow. MSW Pipe- and Profile Systems Corp. chose Granville County not only for its ideal logistics but also because of the welcoming and familiar atmosphere of the community. "It felt like a second home," Holtvoigt added. "We are confident that Granville County will be a great place for our business to grow, and we look forward to being a part of this vibrant community."
