  • For this week’s Marketplace Monday we are excited to showcase a trailblazing women’s sports sponsorship opportunity that will build on the explosive momentum of the Women’s Championship Tour - and allow equal numbers of men and women to compete on the Tour for the first time. The WSL is an organization that has been dedicated to gender parity; successfully equalizing prize purses and widening  access to world-class waves for everyone. Yet the one  wave that still needs to be conquered is equalizing the number of competitors across genders. In partnership with a TRAILBLAZING sponsor (YOUR BRAND!) As the first-ever premium documentary series starring and created by NWSL players, Trailblazing Sports Group is thrilled to be bringing this opportunity to market.    “The Offseason” invites viewers to follow the experiences of over 10 NWSL players, shedding light on the highs and lows of playing at the professional level. Producers Alexis Ohanian and producer/player Midge Purce will join Sport’s Innovation Lab’s Women’s Sports Club on stage tomorrow night, October 8th in NYC to celebrate the series during the VIP reception at Club Women’s Sports.   We can’t wait to watch all the magic (and a little bit of drama) on the “Off Season”, premiering October 18!

    Tonight's #trailblazingtuesday is a throwback to last week when I joined the legendary LA ballers Los Angeles Sparks Cam Brink, University of Southern California's JuJu Watkins, National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) commissioner and visionary, Jessica Berman, and the incredibly talented Julia Boorstin at the CNBC x Boardroom Game Plan conference. We spoke about the value of the women's sports fan, the business case for brands to invest more in sponsorship and women's sports media, and how female athletes are changing the game and are creating an "athlete era".     This is what trailblazing looks like. Tonight's #trailblazingtuesday celebrates the legacy of #13, and her accomplishments off the pitch in the fight for equal pay. 💥 In April of 2016 Alex Morgan was was one of the five national team players—alongside Hope Solo, Carli Lloyd, Megan Rapinoe and Becky Sauerbruun—who originally filed a wage discrimination lawsuit against the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). 💥 Alex was a active leader on the Players CBA Committee in 2017 and in 2021-22, and on May 18, 2022 (six years after the first filed suit) an historic CBA was signed between USSF and the USWNT and USMNT players. Under these agreements, U.S. Soccer became the first Federation in the world to equalize FIFA World Cup prize money awarded to the USWNT and the USMNT for participation in their respective World Cups. Equally as important, the new CBAs improve non-economic terms, including player health and safety and maternity benefits. 💥 In December of the same year, The Equal Pay for Team USA Act passed the House and Senate, requiring all athletes representing the United States in global competition to receive equal pay and benefits in their sport, regardless of gender. Credit was given to Morgan and the USWNT players for standing up for equal pay and paving the way for this legislation to be signed. Here's to you, Alex, for blazing trails and leaving a legacy that will inspire generations to come. 🥂

    Tonight's #trailblazingtuesday is all about celebrating the summer, welcoming the fall, and cherishing the moments in between. As we gear up for a non-stop fall with WNBA Playoffs starting this month, the NWSL back in full swing post Olympics with gold medals in tow, and upset drama and 🇺🇲 domination at the US Open, I continue to feel grateful for the industry we are privileged to work in, the colleagues over the years who have become lifelong friends, and the experiences I get to share with my daughters. I loved spending Labor Day week and weekend watching both of our hometown Los Angeles Sparks & Angel City Football Club get W's with my little ballers even if they are reppin' NY LIBERTY shirts (Sabrina fans for life...Go Ducks!). Hope you all had a restful Labor Day weekend, and are ready to #trailblaze into the fall by supporting, investing, and watching women's sports!

  • Player Power. I am often asked about the Trailblazing Playbook for brands wanting to get involved in sponsoring women's sports and my answer is - it starts with the athletes. Always. The leagues, the media contracts, the ratings, the social buzz doesn't exist without the talent and the social capital of these women on the field/court, and a strong player focused CBA will lead to a strong league, which will lead to stronger economics for all. Player Association partnerships have been unrated and unvalued, it's a way for a brand to tap into the collective group of trailblazing players in this new economy of women's sports. #partnerwithplayers

    There's only one word to describe the new NWSL CBA between the league and the Players. TRAILBLAZING. Tonight's #trailblazingtuesday celebrates the groundbreaking agreement and applauds the leaders from the league, and the NWSLPA, and the players who worked tirelessly for months to create a CBA that will shape the future success of the NWSL for years to come. One thing I have loved during this entrepreneurial journey of starting Trailblazing Sports Group has been learning different aspects of the sports ecosystem. When we started working with OneTeam Partners on women's sports partnerships for the NWSLPA, the WNBPA, and the USWNTPA, my knowledge of Player Unions was limited, but after a year, I am in awe of what these organizations do and how they change the game for the athletes we all love to watch. Congratulations to Jessica Berman & Meghann Burke and the collective group of NWSL Players on this trailblazing CBA!
