We’re honored that Geoffrey Canada, the president of Harlem Children's Zone and renowned educator, wrote the foreword for our upcoming book. He highlights the book's focus on real-life stories and practical methods for transforming school: “In this book, you’ll not only find real stories of diverse communities doing this work, but you’ll also find practical ideas and methods for your community to start innovating. https://lnkd.in/et24qYgA

About us
Our Vision All young people learn in ways that enable them to thrive in and transform the world. Our Mission Transcend supports communities to create and spread extraordinary, equitable learning environments. What We Believe The world is changing, as are the needs of learners. It’s more complex, more interconnected, more technological. To thrive, our children need more than academic skills – they need leadership, self‐awareness, creativity, empathy, collaboration, entrepreneurship, critical consciousness, and more. All children deserve this opportunity. The time is now for innovation. The traditional design of K‐12 public schools has served important purposes over time. However, the world’s changing conditions and students’ evolving needs call for wholly new conceptions of what we call “school.” Our Role Transcend, founded by Jeff Wetzler and Aylon Samouha, plays a key partnership role to fuel and grow R&D capacity. Given day‐to‐day demands of school, visionary educators are often held back in the innovation they can pursue. We believe they will make the best progress when afforded the time, capacity, and support to not only imagine and design but also build, prototype, assess, iterate upon, codify, and ultimately replicate breakthrough new models. Through partnering with school operators, Transcend aims to play a vital role in affording visionary educators – and the sector more broadly – the deep R&D capacity needed to accelerate breakthroughs in the creation and spread of new “school” models. Our Approach We enlist school operator partners (district, charter, and other) who have great potential for breakthrough innovation. We assemble world‐class R&D talent (both individuals and organizations), with expertise in a range of areas. We partner with school operators to provide the external R&D capacity that is often much needed, while also helping to grow, unleash, and orchestrate the capacity that already exists within leadership, staff, students, and community.

Mark your calendar. On September 10th from 4-5 p.m. ET, Overdeck Family Foundation and Ad Council will host a webinar revealing key takeaways from a recently completed mixed methods research study examining K-12 parents’ views on education and school absences, and the narratives that would effectively communicate why consistent in-person attendance is critical. Register here: https://lnkd.in/e9cSb5VR The findings in this report and accompanying toolkit, presented by Derrick Feldmann, will provide guidance for policymakers, practitioners, and educators on how to best develop messaging that motivates families to consistently send their children to school in person. Following a review of the research, hear from experts and practitioners Dr. Robert Balfanz, Hedy Chang, Angelica Infante-Green, and Dr. Todd Rogers during a live panel conversation moderated by Lina Eroh. cc: Attendance Works, EveryDay Labs, Everyone Graduates Center, Johns Hopkins University, Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University School of Education, Rhode Island Department of Education

There’s a strong link between student engagement and attendance. When students love school, they show up. Our data show that when students report positive experiences in school, they are 25% less likely to be chronically absent. https://lnkd.in/gYpsP6eE

At the heart of Springpoint's Transformative Learning Experiences (TLEs) are questions without obvious solutions or answers. Questions like... ❓How has the Supreme Court defined my Constitutional rights as a student? ❓To what extent can art influence social change? ❓How can data be used to generate public will and inform local action for community improvements? Throughout each TLE, students must think critically to create a final artifact that allows them to apply their learning in a purposeful way. For some students, this might be a performance or presentation, but for others they may develop a podcast or an app that conveys their learnings. Learn more about the TLE curriculum and experience on Transcend's Innovative Models Exchange! https://lnkd.in/gcvTzcJY
