If, across philanthropy, we are working to build and deepen trust — between funders and grantee partners, board and staff members...how do you measure it? The Giving Practice at Philanthropy Northwest has a hot take worth exploring “There may be some things about human relationships that you just can’t measure. Like love and friendship, trust is something that you feel and experience. When you know, you know.” - Dawn Chirwa Do you agree? Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 5-year anniversary of Trust-Based Philanthropy! 🙌🏾 Your presence and contributions made this milestone even more special as we reflected on our collective journey to shift power and center trust in philanthropy. 💡 A few standout moments from the celebration: "When we started making grants I really wanted it to be from a place of service. What can we do to be of service to you, instead of you having to prove you are worthy of us? That spirit has been with the Trust-Based Philanthropy Project since its inception. That sense of service is a big part of our success." -John Esterle "I was so used to this suspicion-based philanthropy that it was nice to be in a relationship where you feel trusted, where you feel like you're a partner, not a freeloader, which philanthropy has often felt like. As I got to know trust-based philanthropy it has felt revolutionary." -Vu Le "My hope is that I can take what we did at Headwaters Foundation and demonstrate to our field and colleagues that working this way is doable regardless of size or how big a foundation is. I think the selection of me to be the President at California Endowment is an indication that trust-based philanthropy is coming to be seen as the future of philanthropy. - Brenda S. "We want to go from a collectively built movement to a collectively held movement. So that this can be the standard of practice." -Shaady Salehi "We are hoping to decentralize ourselves as the hub. The heart of this effort has been powered by grassroots movements. It's time to demonstrate and mobilize, it's a really exciting moment in time. It feels like we might have the ability to influence the entire sector." -Pia Infante #TrustBasedPhilanthropy #5YearCelebration #ShiftingPower #CantStopWontStop
