  • Food security is national security. That was on full display in our nation's Capitol Building at a launch event with USAID for a new Feed the Future accelerator that uses effective and targeted investments, bringing in key private sector partners, to catalyze new breadbaskets in Africa that can transform global food security.  American leadership is key to solving this deeply consequential global challenge. It was great to see National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Governor David M. Beasley, Administrator Samantha Power, bipartisan, bicameral Capitol Hill leaders including Senators John Boozman & Chris Coons and Representatives Gregory Meeks & Tracey Mann, African Union Ambassador Hilda Suka Mafudze, Bayer's Matthias Berninger, AGRA's Dr. AGNES KALIBATA and more uplifting the importance of global food security to all our communities. 🎥 Check out this 3-minute recap video:

As world leaders convene in NYC for #UNGA, a new opinion poll featured in a full-page The Wall Street Journal ad finds that Americans across the political spectrum are overwhelmingly united on this: The U.S. must continue to lead on the global stage to advance our own security and prosperity. Here’s what the numbers show:  🇺🇸 More than 8 in 10 believe the U.S. should play a major role on the global stage. 🌎 Nearly 9 in 10 are concerned about rivals creating instability around the world. 💡 More than 8 in 10 want to prioritize diplomacy & development, alongside defense. 💵 More than 7 in 10 say engaging in Africa, Asia, & Latin America protects our economic interests.

Food security is national security. Today, food insecurity is on the rise in Africa – impacting approximately 20% of the continent’s population – and it’s being exacerbated by global challenges, including climate change, instability, and more. To help fight food insecurity in Sub-Saharan Africa, USAID is launching the Feed the Future Accelerator which will help unlock the production potential of three critical regional breadbaskets: Malawi, Tanzania, and Zambia. This project will help promote food security and stability in the region, which in turn will benefit our security and prosperity here at home.    To celebrate the launch of the #FeedtheFuture Accelerator, USGLC is joining USAID, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Ambassador Samantha Power, David M. Beasley, African leaders, and bipartisan, bicameral, members from across Capitol Hill for a critical conversation on why food security is key to national security and how innovative programs like this Accelerator can help fight hunger, poverty, and malnutrition in Africa and around the world while helping protect our security, prosperity, and values.   Tune in virtually on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 8:45am EDT to learn more about how innovative solutions to addressing food insecurity can benefit us here at home: https://lnkd.in/e2eX_DH3

  • We always ask a simple question, "what's it worth?" What is America's engagement in the world worth to real families and real communities across the country. Last week, Senator Mark Warner, U.S. Air Force Lt. General Scott Kindsvater and other Virginia leaders gathered in Richmond to say emphatically, that America's leadership abroad is worth everything to our security and prosperity here at home.       We heard from so many local leaders including Stephanie Robinson Agee, Brett Vassey, Col. Carlos Hopkins, JD, MBA, and Christian Rautenstrauch on why Virginia’s engagement is so critical, from supporting one fifth of the state’s jobs and bolstering the economy through international trade, to advancing America's values in order to shape a better, safer world.   Check out some of what we heard on why leading globally matters locally to Virginia’s communities and families: “There is nothing better for America’s economic interest and, frankly, for our overall world prosperity than maintaining strong, principled American leadership across all these diplomatic, military, technological, and economic domains.” - Senator Mark Warner, (D-VA) “Xi Jinping and Putin have had over 45 meetings… They’re talking about… ending the global order that we established coming out of World War Two.” - Gen. Scott Kindsvater, U.S. Air Force (Ret.) “When America leads Virginia wins. America wins, and the world wins.” - Stephanie Agee, Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, International Trade, Virginia Economic Development Partnership "As a colonel with 32 years of service... I understand how important that global leadership is to us here locally in Virginia... we need these vital strategic investments in diplomacy and in development to help fight corruption, promote the rule of law, and open new markets for our goods and services, which will be key to the economic prosperity and national security for us here at home." - Colonel Carlos Hopkins, Virginia Secretary of Veterans and Defense Affairs (2017-2022) “Manufacturers absolutely understand that defense plus diplomacy plus trade equals peace and prosperity.” - Brett Vassey, President & CEO, Virginia Manufacturers Association “As USGLC’s South initiative chair Coca-Cola knows that America's global leadership is critical, not only for our economic prosperity and security, but also to showcase the very best of American values.” - Christian Rautenstrauch, Director of Public Policy, The Coca-Cola Company

  • Just as we did last month in Milwaukee at the Republican National Convention, USGLC was in Chicago last week at the Democratic National Convention, hosting a premier foreign policy event. In partnership with the National Democratic Institute (NDI), we brought together top leaders from Senator Christopher Coons, to Ambassador Susan Rice to shine on a spotlight on the value of American engagement in the world. Amb. Rice said “our physical security, our national security, our economic security, are really, truly inextricably linked to what happens outside our shores.” Sen. Coons said “Russia's aggression in Ukraine makes it clearer than ever that we're at a moment where defending democracy through our allies and partners is the path forward for the United States.” Watch this 2-minute recap video for more 🎥

  • “Kentucky’s export economy is a consequential, yet often overlooked, product of American leadership. Without access to global markets and freedom of navigation of strategic sea lanes and trade routes, all of which are underpinned by an American-led order, our economy would grind to a halt.“ - Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell   A great conversation in Louisville yesterday with Senator Mitch McConnell, Scott Jennings, Lt. General Richard Newton, UPSNick D'Andrea and other business, military, and humanitarian leaders who joined us about why America’s global leadership matters now more than ever to Kentucky and the South.
