Key West isn’t JUST flip flops, sunsets, and Duval Street! The 2024 Hybrid Fleet Campaign Event is underway aboard Spearhead-class expeditionary fast transport ship USNS Burlington (T-EPF 10) in the Atlantic Ocean. Observers from Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, along with U.S.-based STEM subject matter experts from various Department of the Navy laboratories participating in the Scientists-to-Sea program were aboard USNS Burlington to witness the events. Observers were able to watch launch and recovery of unmanned aerial systems and received a tour of the ship's bridge and pilot house. U.S. Navy representatives aboard Burlington were able to field questions on the development and use of robots and autonomous systems for the observers. The Hybrid Fleet Campaign Event utilizes U.S. 4th Fleet as the operational arm for Department of the Navy Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Experimentation Cell (DoN SEC) and Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic to field test unmanned, hybrid, and robotic systems.
