We’ve talked a lot about the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE) this week, but do you know what it is and how the SDA fits in? The DNE is a cohesive network of organisations responsible for maintaining the UK’s nuclear deterrent and submarine forces. At the SDA we’re the enterprise’s delivery agent for submarines. We collaborate closely within the sector to generate, design, produce, and maintain submarines, whilst ensuring proper infrastructure, personnel, and support. #TeamDNE

#NavyX just completed a really positive day with #marineai and the #Qinetiq team at Portsdown Technology Park discussing our degree 4 #autonomy headmark. Main focus was how we can leverage our recent MOU with Marine AI to expedite deploying their Guardian AI Autonomy software onto #PtBk at pace. Key to success will be both our ability to rapidly deploy and integrate the right mix of sensors and the use of our Open Compute Environment (OCE) which is a critical enabler both of this phase of the project and as we move forward with #PtBk supporting wider autonomy development for the Royal Navy.

Agamemnon has entered the water for the first time as she's launched BAE Systems in Barrow-in-Furness 👏🇬🇧. Nicknamed ‘Awesome Aggie’, this has been a collaborative effort between the SDA, BAE Systems Maritime, the Royal Navy, Rolls-Royce and Agamemnon’s crew. Agamemnon will now begin the next phase of testing and commissioning, before leaving Barrow for sea trials with the Royal Navy. #RoyalNavy #Agamemnon #NationalEndeavour

UKNEST members were hosted brilliantly by Babcock International Group in Rosyth last week. The meeting was preceded by a tour of the highly impressive advanced manufacturing facility where we witnessed construction of the magnificent Type 31 Inspiration Class frigates. At the end of June, I had the opportunity to Compete in the Red Bull Soapbox Race, an event in which competitors design and build gravity racers. It was a fantastic opportunity to practice engineering and leadership skills outside of university studies. In addition, UKNEST's Scholarship Programme has supported me throughout this year providing a great insight into the Naval Engineering Sector. It is a scheme that I would highly recommend to any STEM student. Thanks also to the Imperial College Motor Clubs for allowing us to use their workshops to construct our car in record time. The Imperial College Motor Clubs run an impressive fleet of Veteran and Vintage Cars. As ever long hours in the workshop are what made this a reality.
