Dr. Monica Rother’s EVS 515 class had a field trip recently at Carolina Beach State Park with WRC Herpetologist Jeff Hall, to learn more about field methods. The class directly observed at least 17 species. Students learned a variety of methods used by the WRC Wildlife team including cover boards, PVC pipes (for frogs and toads), and traps placed in water including minnow traps and turtle traps. 📷 by EVS grad student Alexandra Testa Species seen include: squirrel tree frog, spadefoot toad, southeastern crown snake, southern black racer, two stripe walking stick, dragonfly larvae, oak toad, broken striped newt, blue centipede, southern cricket frog, belted kingfisher, tadpoles of either bullfrogs or leopard frogs, pine woods tree frog, American alligator, narrowmouth toad, striped mud turtle, yellow bellied slider, and a barking tree frog.
