About us

For 90 years United Way of Lancaster County has been helping generous contributors make change happen in their community. By focusing its Community Impact Fund investments on the underlying causes of the county’s most serious problems, United Way maximizes investors’ gifts to accomplish four bold goals by 2025: (1) 100% of Lancaster County children will enter kindergarten ready to learn, (2) 100% of students and adults will have post-secondary credentials, (3) Decrease individuals and families living in poverty by 50%, and (4) 100% of individuals, children, and families will have a medical home. Fostering collaborations between nonprofit organizations, businesses, faith-based groups, volunteers, and government, United Way and its supporters create lasting change in Lancaster County, achieving results that no single sector could accomplish alone.

  • United Way of Lancaster County is wishing our Jewish neighbors a safe and meaningful Yom Kippur! Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement, is one of the holiest days in the Jewish calendar, falling ten days after Rosh Hashanah. It’s a sacred time for reflection, fasting, and atonement—a chance to connect with ourselves and our loved ones. The name "Yom Kippur" translates to "Day of Atonement," emphasizing the importance of repentance and seeking forgiveness. As we enter this day of introspection, let’s take a moment to embrace the spirit of the holiday. Yom Kippur encourages us to reflect on our actions over the past year, seek forgiveness, and set intentions for the year ahead. It impacts not only those who observe Judaism but also our wider community, reminding us of the values of compassion, humility, and the pursuit of peace. Let’s commit to being our best selves, spreading kindness and love in the days to come. 💙 #UnitedWayofLancasterCounty #YomKippur #Reflection #Community

  • Today is World Mental Health Day, a global event dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for mental health issues. First established by the World Federation for Mental Health in 1992, this day aims to promote mental wellbeing and encourage open conversations about mental health challenges. United Way of Lancaster County stands in solidarity with those navigating mental health challenges. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), over 20% of American adults—more than 50 million—experience some form of mental illness each year, with about 5% facing more serious concerns (USA Today). As we navigate our own mental health journeys, let us remember to be compassionate toward those who are on their own paths. Together, we can break the stigma, foster understanding, and promote mental wellbeing for everyone. Reach out to mental health professionals, start conversations, and build a supportive community. Your mental health matters! #WorldMentalHealthDay #UnitedForMentalHealth

  • 🌟 Shana Tova! 🍯🍎 United Way of Lancaster County wants to extend a very happy Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year! As we celebrate, let’s take a moment to reflect on its rich history and traditions. Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of the High Holy Days, a time for introspection, renewal, and hope. It commemorates the creation of the world and invites us to consider how we can make the coming year meaningful. Celebrations often include festive meals featuring symbolic foods, such as apples dipped in honey for a sweet new year, round challah to symbolize the cycle of life, and pomegranates representing abundance. Many attend synagogue services, engage in prayers, and participate in the ritual of Tashlich, casting away sins by tossing breadcrumbs into a body of water. May we all continue to celebrate the importance of new beginnings! #RoshHashanah #ShanaTova #NewYear
