Last night, we welcomed members of our medical community to an open house for our brand new interventional radiology clinic in Highlands Ranch.   CU Medicine Interventional Radiology - Highlands Ranch at Ridgeline Medical Campus offers cutting-edge, minimally invasive treatments using image guidance. Our board-certified interventional radiologists utilize techniques such as embolization, angioplasty, stenting, ablation and other advanced procedures to treat a wide range of conditions.   Guests had the opportunity to tour our state-of-the-art facility, which features the latest imaging and procedural technology. We're thrilled to expand access to these innovative treatments in the Highlands Ranch area. The new clinic allows us to provide compassionate, leading-edge care in a convenient, community-based setting.

Last month we opened CU Medicine Interventional Radiology – Highlands Ranch at Ridgeline Medical Campus. As a specialty, interventional radiology is pioneering cutting-edge, minimally invasive techniques to treat a widening array of conditions. Rather than performing open surgery, interventional radiologists use small instruments like catheters and tiny incisions, guided by detailed real-time imaging, to navigate through blood vessels and body pathways to deliver targeted treatments. Some of the amazing things interventional radiologists can do include: Quickly remove blood clots to immediately restore blood flow and save brain tissue after a stroke Open up blocked arteries in the heart and legs with tiny balloons and intricate metal stents Stop internal bleeding and control hemorrhage by embolizing vessels Destroy tumors with precisely delivered heat, cold and cancer fighting agents Drain infected fluid collections deep inside the body with tiny plastic tubes Repair aneurysms from the inside out with mesh tubes called stents The procedures performed by today’s interventional radiologists were considered surgery just years ago. Their techniques allow faster recovery, less pain, lower risk and often replace open surgery altogether. Interventional radiology epitomizes the continued evolution of modern medicine toward more elegant, less invasive solutions that improve patient outcomes. Thrash is a senior instructor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and treats patients at the CU Medicine Family Medicine - Louisville clinic. Thrash decided to become a doctor of psychology after working as a clinical social worker for many years. This unique background allows her to take a holistic approach when caring for patients.
