What are steps we can take to advance gender equity one community at a time? The ECHO for Gender Equity in Schools program focuses on changing gender norms in school communities through intentional program design, collaboration, and reflection. In the ECHO India program, teachers and students are co-creating gender-equitable school communities by reflecting on their actions and having conversations across genders. Soraya Gollop, Ph.D., education director for Project ECHO, who helped guide and design the ECHO for Gender Equity in Schools curriculum, shares, “This program required a very complex program design. We needed to address experience, emotion and reflection to change the attitudes not only of the teachers, but of the students they work with.” To learn more about the ECHO for Gender Equity in Schools program, read our story here: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gr2_Z_EQ

“For people that are incarcerated, there is a misconception that you have to wait to have hope for your life and be of service to your community. When the reality is that prison is a community…The New Mexico Prison Peer Education Project is an opportunity to be of service now.” In the New Mexico Prison Peer Education Project, inmates serve as peer educators and share disease prevention best practices. The peer-to-peer learning approach fosters a sense of community among inmates and hope for the future. Hear participant reflections in the video below!✨
NMCD + UNM Project ECHO = A game-changer! 🗣️✨ Why? Because inmates often feel more comfortable confiding in their peers, which makes this approach a powerful tool for fostering change and reducing recidivism. Here’s how it works…. Devoted team members from Project ECHO host peer education classes inside of our prison facilities, across low and high levels of inmates. At the conclusion of the classes the students make presentations about what they learned and answer questions from an audience. ‼️The OVERALL goal is to empower the students with the knowledge to protect themselves and others from communicable diseases, like Hepatitis C. #NewMexico #corrections #reentrymatters Project ECHO
