If you had told me growing up that I’d have the opportunity to share my passions, my experiences, and how they connect to sustainable (upcycled) food and pet nutrition on a stage at The Pet Summit , Pet Sustainability Coalition ,Global Pet Expo , American Pet Products Association (APPA) in Orlando—I wouldn’t have believed you. This was, by far, one of the hardest conversations I’ve ever had. But when you believe in serendipity, you never know how someone’s suggestion can shift everything. That’s exactly what Allison Reser did when she said, “Maybe you should sit down and share it.” I looked at her and thought, “Wow, that’s actually a great idea.” So I did. I sat down with the audience and shared the story of my ancestors—how their legacy molded me into the bricklayer you see today. This moment was difficult because it was the first time I spoke publicly about my direct influence, and I had to hold back tears. I know she—along with so many others—never had the chance to fully tell her story. When I think about building something, I always use the LEGO analogy: if you truly build it piece by piece, you also have the joy of removing and adding as you go. I hope my story inspired others to share theirs, to light a spark in others, and to remember that food and pets are two of the greatest connectors we have. Still pinching myself that I did that.
