This #DVAM2024, we are putting out a call-to-action to integrate racial justice principles into all aspects of domestic violence prevention and intervention, recognizing that true justice for survivors can only be achieved when racial inequities are addressed. It’s members like Deedra, who remind us that we all have a role to play in creating safe and thriving communities for all, therefore, we cannot just simply do the work, we must fully commit to the work. We invite you to visit our website and make a donation so that we can continue to strive toward a future where every survivor is supported and empowered. #TogetherWeHealURI #HealHoldCenter #NoSurvivorJusticeWithoutRacialJustice #SupportSurvivors #CallForUnity

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) and this year’s National Call for Unity is an opportunity for “Connective Action” around the 2024 theme, “Heal, Hold & Center”. Now is the time for us all to commit to reconnection with those we honor and appreciate in this work to end and heal from domestic violence, which is why we are proud to share that The Greater New York Chapter of The Links, Inc. (@gnylinks) is working alongside the Urban Resource Institute (@uri_nyc) to enhance support for survivors in our communities. By combining our passion, resources, and expertise, we aim to build a stronger network of advocacy, education, and support. A big thank you to @GovKathyHochul for prioritizing the safety of survivors of domestic violence. 🙌 Your $36.5M investment for NYC and 20 NYS District Attorneys with the highest DV rates will make a real difference in helping survivors and their families heal and access justice. We urge continued support by signing the SAFE Shelter Act this #DVAM2024. Survivors deserve safe shelter and strong protections. 💜 #SupportSurvivors #EndDomesticViolence #DVPrevention #URINYC

URI proudly sponsored the 2024 National Conference on Domestic Violence, themed “Reclaim Hope. Champion Change.” This powerful event united advocates to push for a just and equitable society, highlighting the urgent need to end gender-based violence and celebrating our progress in empowering those impacted by relationship abuse. 💪 At the conference, Team URI connected with hundreds of advocates from across the country to reclaim hope and champion change for survivors and their families. Our workshop, “Collective Action to Create Economic Safety for Survivors of Violence,” sparked critical conversations about advancing #EconomicJustice. Through our Economic Empowerment Program (EEP), we envision a world free from poverty-driven violence by advocating for financial opportunities, addressing systemic disenfranchisement, and promoting individual financial independence. 🎙️ Teal Inzunza, LMSW, AVP of Justice Initiatives, and blair dorosh-walther, Director of Economic Empowerment, shared insights on the decades-long effort to achieve economic safety for survivors, emphasizing “the power of relationships and relentlessness” as key to driving change. Together, we are building community and power with anti-poverty and anti-violence advocates nationwide. Let’s keep championing change! #ReclaimHope #ChampionChange #EndGenderBasedViolence #EconomicJustice

URI was honored to sponsor Pet Night on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, hosted by Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI), THE PET FOOD INSTITUTE, and the Pet Advocacy Network! 🐾 This special event brought Members of Congress and Congressional staff together with leaders from the pet care community to discuss the vital role of pets in improving human health and wellbeing. Pet-friendly policies that strengthen the human-animal bond have a profound impact on the quality of life for both people and animals. For over 10 years, our People & Animals Living Safely (PALS) program has provided a safe haven for families and their pets to heal together in shelter. PALS is proud to be New York City’s first and only program that allows people and pets to stay together during times of crisis. With more than 500 pet-friendly residences, we’re removing barriers to safety so that survivors can experience the emotional and physical benefits of staying with their pets. Together, we’re creating safer, pet-inclusive shelters and advocating for policies that keep families whole during challenging times. 🏠💙 #PALS #HumanAnimalBond #StayTogetherHealTogether #PetInclusive #PetNightOnCapitalHill

Today, URI is on Capitol Hill for Pet Advocacy Day, discussing the importance of our People and Animals Living Safely (PALS) program with Senator Gillibrand, Congressman Ritchie Torres, Congressman Dan Goldman, U.S. Representative Nicole Malliotakis, Congressman Jerrold “Jerry” Nadler and and Congresswoman Grace Meng. PALS ensures families and pets can remain together in shelters during times of crisis. Securing funding through the federal PAWS & PUPP Acts, along with the NYS PAWS Act (championed by Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal and State Senator Monica Martinez), is critical to expanding this essential service. We're proud to stand alongside these incredible supporters advocating for safer, pet-inclusive shelters. #URI #PALS #PetAdvocacy #PAWSAct #PUPPAct #FamilySafety #DomesticViolence #CapitolHill
