Grow food. Grow community. Grow Growers

About us

URBAN HARVEST STL BUILDS COMMUNITY AROUND INCLUSIVE AND RESILIENT LOCAL FOOD SYSTEMS. Urban Harvest STL believes in food rights - all members of our community should have equitable access to fresh, healthy food regardless of socioeconomic status, race or location. We grow healthy produce across a network of urban farms in the heart of St. Louis and donate the majority of the harvest to nonprofit partners serving communities with limited or non-existent access to healthy, nutritious food. Urban Harvest STL also educates and engages the surrounding community in these efforts.

We need port-a-potties! And you can help. A donation of $105 will cover the cost of one port-a-potty at one Urban Harvest STL garden for one month. $17 fills one raised bed with plants. Donate here: https://lnkd.in/gQXDsRy8 I'm proud to serve on the Urban Harvest STL board. We build community around inclusive and resilient local food systems. We're fundraising today as part of #GiveSTLDay. Our goal is $20,000. Please help us meet our goal. Thank you! (Photo: Ari Hariston-Castillo, R. Last but not least, Meet Nathan Wolff, our new Farmer at Rung for Women! Nathan comes to Urban Harvest with a background as an engineer, yoga instructor and farm educator. While working as a corporate chemical engineer, Nathan took an evening community college course on yoga that changed his life, opening up a new passion for teaching and empowering others to cultivate health and wellness. He left engineering to pursue a career as a full time yoga instructor, earning his 500-hour certification at Kripalu Yoga Center in Massachusetts. As he deepened his study of yoga, health and nutrition, Nathan got interested in farming and completed the EarthDance Organic Farm School Apprenticeship program in 2015, sparking yet another era of his professional life. Nathan has managed farms in Seattle, Washington, and locally for Hamilton Farms as well as served as assistant farm manager at EarthDance. He is most alive and connected when teaching others in the field about plants, soil and the joys of growing food.Nathan enjoys coaching youth soccer as part of the St. Louis City Futures outreach program. He and his wife, Lindsay, are building a homestead together, HeartSong Farm in Eureka, MO.

Meet Addie, our new Little Sprouts Educator! Addie worked as a farming assistant for Urban Harvest in 2018 while attending SLU pursuing her bachelor's degree in sociology. It was there that she first learned about food deserts and food insecurity in the St. Louis region and beyond. Access to healthy, nutritious food is a human right, and she fully believes in Urban Harvest’s community-based approach to fighting for food justice. Addie is very excited to be working with Urban Harvest again as the Little Sprouts Educator. Addie has also been a competitive gymnastics coach for over 10 years and has worked with children of all ages and abilities. She strongly believes children are our most valuable members of society, which is why she takes a holistic approach to coaching that focuses on developing capable and resilient young people first, before developing strong athletes. She is looking forward to using her unwavering positivity (and lots of silliness!) to encourage curiosity, exploration, and confidence in our youngest growers. Getting children in the garden early is crucial for fostering their connection to nature and a love for fresh food.
