We're looking at "Sustainable City Development & Vital Systems Under Pressure – The Need For A Systems Perspective In Our Cities." This October, from the 9th to the 11th, we're attending the session of Geiske Bouma (TNO Vector), Maarten Claassen (City of Amsterdam), Marije ten Kate (Gemeente Rotterdam), and Nico Larco (Urbanism Next Center at the University of Oregon)! "This session offers insights from Europe (Rotterdam/Amsterdam) and the US on sustainable city development in connection to vital systems in cities." "Vital Systems refer to the systems in the human body that are vital for survival. The city too has such vital systems: energy, mobility, water and health. Until recently, these systems were more or less taken for granted: they are there, they work, we can connect infrastructures without further ado. Unfortunately, that no longer appears to be true. Vital systems are cracking on all sides and are therefore increasingly determining what (new) development is possible in the city." Interested? Excited to share that this new report on #intermodal passenger facilities is out!! Worked on this with Bill Schwartz (who led this effort at Nelson\Nygaard Consulting Associates), as well as Amanda Howell, Joe Iacobucci and many others! Great resource for thinking about how emerging trends are going to be impacting intermodal facilities. "Data-Driven Decision Making for Urban Mobility" This October, we're attending the session of Sascha Hoogendoorn-Lanser (Delft University of Technology) and Serge Hoogendoorn (Delft University of Technology)! "While urban mobility data collection is still quite focused on the car, we are slowly moving into an era where multi-modal mobility data is becoming ubiquitous. This gives rise to many novel data-driven applications in both multi-modal traffic management and transportation planning. In this work session, we explore the possibilities, pitfalls and challenges by discussing the results of a number of use cases (e.g. risk assessment, and forecasting during events in The Hague; multi-modal integrated traffic management in Rotterdam; trip characteristic inference and traffic data analytics in Riga) where “data analytics as a service” has been applied." "CCAM For Society: How Can Cities Unlock The Potential Of Connected, Cooperative & Automated Mobility (CCAM)?" This October, we're attending the session of Chris de Veer (Provincie Noord-Holland), Evan Corey Costagliola (Cityfi), Frances Sprei (Chalmers University of Technology), Tom Alkim (MAPtm), and William Riggs (University of San Francisco) at our 2024 Urbanism Next Europe Conference! "Connected, Cooperative & Automated Mobility (CCAM) is emerging around the globe, but what benefits can it really bring to society in general and urban areas in particular? This session will bring US and EU experts together to share experiences and lessons learned from various international Connected & Automated Vehicle operations. After setting the scene with international findings and multistakeholder perspectives, discussions will focus on what role CCAM can have in urban areas taking into account societal perspectives such as safety, environmental impact, liveability and inclusion. Moreover, how can authorities and road operators safeguard societal standards while facilitating CCAM to unlock its potential?" Interested? "Car-lite? Car-free? Car-gone? Applied research on reducing car-dependence in Europe" This October, we're attending the session of Dan Piatkowski (OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University), Devon McAslan (Chalmers University of Technology), Josephine Tröger (Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI), Raphaela Mak (Metvibee), and Uta Burghard (Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences) at our 2024 Urbanism Next Europe Conference! "As sharing, micromobility, e-bikes and e-cargo bikes continue to gain traction as key features of the urban mobility future, research is ongoing on how best to apply these mobility tools to achieve truly sustainable, healthy, and just cities. This session presents applied research, supported by the Driving Urban Transitions Partnership, addressing the many facets of reducing car-dependence and reaching 15-minute cities. The work engages residents in seven cities and four countries in participatory design of shared mobility through gamification, pilot projects, and living labs, focusing on using shared cargo bikes to reduce auto-dependence." Interested? Register now for discounted rates to the 2024 Urbanism Next Europe Conference! https://lnkd.in/gEzH-wSa The early bird deadline is September 1st.
