When it comes to leadership, ADP 6-22, Army Leadership and the Profession, does a fantastic job providing practical leadership advice for leaders of all levels. One thing it lacks is describing behaviors to avoid at all costs. Thankfully our friends at The NCO Leadership Center of Excellence and Sergeants Major Academy have provided The 7 Deadly Sins of Leadership. https://lnkd.in/etASKWwb

Career Long Assessments: Athena is designed to improve individual leaders’ self-awareness, helping them to identify strengths, developmental needs, and “blind spots” through a battery of assessments and applicable resources. Feedback reports coupled with counseling, coaching, and mentorship assist personnel in outlining their Individual Developmental Goals and taking steps to achieve them. Leaders at all levels can leverage CLA: Athena to counsel, mentor, and coach: - Soldiers use assessment data to identify areas for development and sustainment - Mentors and Coaches identify blind spots and assist in finding resource - Leaders support Soldiers in establishing development plans using S.M.A.R.T goals - Soldiers and Leaders work together to achieve those goals https://lnkd.in/g-bkbkyW

Center for Army Leadership (CAL) joined with National Guard Bureau (NGB) leaders during a recent site assistance visit in Washington DC, supporting the Army's goal in creating a “culture of assessments.” With command leadership input, CAL addresses leadership, leader development and facilitates feedback from Soldiers to assist their leadership in developing action plans to strengthen unit climate.

LTC Nathan Branen, Director of the Center for Army Leadership (CAL) addresses the 969 students of the Command and General Staff College Class of 2025. LTC Branen provided an overview of the Career Long Assessment - Athena, a series of leader assessments that provides feedback on leadership gaps, strengths, and weaknesses. "The purpose of this program is for you. You own the results. You decide if you want to use them," he emphasized and urged the students to put their identified strengths and weaknesses in their Individual Development Plan (DA 79-06), promoting CAL's mission of leader development, the Army Profession, positive command climates, and mission ready units. When it comes to your role as a leader, sometimes the best thing you can do for your Soldiers is to be humble. Humility is not about being weak or timid, but about the strength it takes to admit when you're wrong, when you need help, to listen and to learn. Check out what our former director, COL Eric Beaty has to say on humility at https://lnkd.in/gsX6Wzkm

Students should feel confident about being honest in their assessment answers. HQDA EXORD 215-21: CLA: Athena assessment data is protected and owned by the individual. Students are the only ones who can share the data, with the exception of warfighting competence and physical fitness. Assessment feedback serves as the foundation in developing and sustaining the individual development plan. Branch proponent Commandants have access to aggregate data to obtain information on student body tendencies and abilities, and to use for revisions or development of programs of instruction. https://lnkd.in/g-bkbkyW
