The Futures Lab is shaping strategic thinking and innovation within the Army War College, preparing our leaders to tackle the complex challenges of tomorrow. The Futures Seminar, a key component of this initiative, encourages creative problem-solving and forward-looking strategies that are essential for success in an ever-evolving global landscape as we aim to create champions of innovation. #USArmyWarCollege #Army #InnovationChampions #StrategicInnovation #FuturesLab #StrategicThinking #CarlisleBarracks

  • What happens when you combine a badass gaming rig with some high speed U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) software? Magic. Just magic...

Exciting Development at the Army War College's Futures Lab! As ground combat continues to evolve, the Department of Defense is increasingly integrating robotic and autonomous technologies to breach complex minefields and obstacle belts more safely and effectively. Recently, engineers from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) installed an upgrade to our virtual autonomous nagivation environment (VANE) to allow the Army War College students the ability to interact with these advanced critical capabilities. The installation of the new Virtual Autonomous Navigation Environment – Remote Breaching Simulator (VANE-RBS) at the Army War College's Futures Lab is designed to help students gain valuable experience in a synthetic training environment, focusing on remote breaching operations. Key highlights include: Unmanned Aircraft Systems: Using multiple UAS to effectively characterize and locate complex obstacles during the experiment and use of terminal exploding (kamikaze) drone swarms to clear mines. Tracked Robotic Ground Vehicle Demonstrator: Equipped with a Mine Clearing Line Charge (MICLIC), this demonstrator fires rockets using remote firing systems which allows Small Multipurpose Equipment Transport (SMET) robotic vehicles to safely conduct combat support operations. Leveraging their previous modeling and simulation work in support of the Next Generation Combat Vehicle, ERDC rapidly developed the customized VANE-RBS. This simulator supports the development of tactics, techniques, and procedures, supplementing the limited time combat engineers have with physical breaching platforms. #ERDC #ArmyWarCollege #FuturesLab #Innovation #Robotics #AutonomousSystems #MilitaryEngineering #CombatEngineering #DefenseTech #ArmyStrong

  • Exciting News from the US Army War College's Futures Lab! We are thrilled to announce our latest step towards sustainability and innovation. The US Army War College has recently acquired cutting-edge solar-powered generators and a state-of-the-art water generator. This water technology mimics the natural process of condensation, drawing moisture from the air to provide clean, impurity-free drinking water powered by solar energy. By harnessing solar energy and extracting water from the atmosphere, we're taking significant strides in reducing our environmental footprint and ensuring reliable resources for our lab operations. This initiative not only emphasizes our commitment to clean energy but also highlights our dedication to leveraging advanced technology for a sustainable future. #Sustainability #Innovation #CleanEnergy #Technology #USArmyWarCollege #AllYouCanBe #Army #USAWCFuturesLab

Celebrating Our Summer Intern: Frank P. Intini IV This summer, the US Army War College Futures Lab had the privilege of hosting Frank P. Intini IV, an outstanding summer intern whose contributions have significantly impacted our projects. Frank is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering at Pennsylvania State University, and his expertise in additive manufacturing and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) has been invaluable to our team. Frank's analytical mindset, enthusiasm for problem-solving, and creativity made him a remarkable asset to our lab. Over the summer, he demonstrated exceptional skills and initiative by developing several innovative 3D printed models for the US Army War College. Frank also improved our triboelectric nanogenerator model, developed new capabilities for our robotics, created and 3D printed dozens of original CAD designs. His dedication, ingenuity, and "can-do" attitude have left a lasting impression on our team and the broader War College community. Beyond his technical contributions, Frank played a crucial role in hosting hundreds of visitors and providing dozens of tours and briefs to various students, faculty, staff, and visitors. His ability to communicate complex ideas and showcase our work was instrumental in enhancing the visibility and impact of the Futures Lab. Thank you, Frank, for your hard work and exceptional contributions. We look forward to seeing all the great things you will achieve in the future! #InternSpotlight #EngineeringExcellence #USArmyWarCollege #AdditiveManufacturing #3DPrinting #CAD #Innovation #FuturesLab #Army #BeAllYouCanBe  Kristan Wheaton Frank Intini
