The U.S.-Japan Business Council is delighted to welcome GE Vernova as a member of the Council. On Wednesday, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, #Keidanren, and the Federation of Korean Industries (#FKI), signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to deepen trilateral private sector collaboration. The three organizations further co-hosted the U.S.-Japan-Korea Business Dialogue, a trilateral business discussion - held on the margins of the Trilateral Commerce and Industry Ministerial Meeting. U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves, Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry SAITO Ken, and Korea’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy AHN Dukgeun delivered opening remarks. Afterwards, business leaders from the three countries, including U.S.-Japan Business Council and U.S.-Korea Business Council members, held a private, off-the-record discussion on key economic issues in the trilateral relationship. Why It Matters: This newly launched private sector platform will enable the three business communities to collaborate more closely on economy and technology issues, consistent with the business priorities of the U.S., #Japan, and #Korea. “These activities will institutionalize trilateral private sector dialogue, ensuring the private sector has a voice in trilateral policy decisions,” said Charles Freeman, the Chamber’s Senior Vice President for Asia. On June 6, we held our annual Joint Staff Meeting in Tokyo where we met with our Japanese counterparts to set the agenda for this year's U.S.-Japan Business Conference. Featured speakers included former Japanese Ambassador Ichiro Fujisaki and Noah Sneider of the The Economist. We also held a fantastic symposium on the #USJapanTourismYear that afternoon. Cameron Deptula from the Office of Hawaii Governor Josh Green gave the U.S. keynote on Japanese tourism to #Hawaii. We also held two panels, on Inclusive Tourism and Innovations in Mobility. We were delighted to have Alan Turley from the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo Japan kick off the symposium with remarks on the origins of the Tourism Year. Jiro Kawakami, CFA of MGM Resorts International then moderated the Inclusive Tourism panel featuring Tomohiro Oya of Airbnb, Karl Hudson from Marriott International, Kenichi Kawamoto from the Japan Association for the 2025 World Expo, and Kozo Takaoka from Kita Management. Taira Iwasaki of Japan Airlines moderated the second panel on Innovations in Mobility which featured Will Shaffer from Boeing, Masato Webb from Delta, Patrick McLeod from Dow Japan, Tomohiro Fukuzawa of SkyDrive, and Takashi Shimizu from Docomo Bike Share.

The U.S. and Japan are hotbeds for advanced materials innovation, and we are proud to see Chuck Mattera and Coherent Corp.'s leadership in this space! Coherent's industry-leading lasers are an essential tool to create the advanced materials we need to foster a cleaner, brighter future.

The U.S.-Japan Business Council was thrilled to host Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Japan, for the U.S.-Japan Executive Roundtable on Critical and Emerging Technology with 16 of America's top business leaders engaged in promoting the U.S.-Japan economic partnership. Suzanne Clark, President & CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, opened the event by highlighting how our partnership acts as an engine for economic growth and innovation through our shared values and commitment to innovation in critical and emerging technologies. Douglas Peterson, President and CEO of S&P Global and Chair of the USJBC Board, and David Goeckeler, CEO of Western Digital and Vice Chair of the USJBC were among the business leaders present. We were also delighted to host U.S. Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel and Japanese Ambassador to the U.S. Shigeo Yamada as representatives of their two countries.
