As the number of people living with cancer rises sharply, there will be an enormous burden on care professionals and our health systems. We believe that digital innovations, including AI, will be key to facing this challenge. "When you get a cancer diagnosis, every minute counts. But cancer is complex, treatment is complex. No two cancers are alike because no two patients are alike," says Ashley Smith, President of Multi-Disciplinary Oncology at Varian. "AI is speeding up the cumbersome parts of the process. At every step along the way, it aims to increase efficiency and personalization. Our goal is to help clinicians provide the right treatment at the right time and to ultimately help create a world where people don’t have to fear cancer."

In a new study published by Maastro and Erasmus MC Cancer Institute, CBCT images produced by the HyperSight imaging solution are compared to fan-beam CT, ring-gantry CBCT, and C-arm linear accelerator CBCT images. The study showed that CBCT images produced by HyperSight had increased image quality and noise reduction compared to the other CBCT imagers, while HyperSight and CT imagers had comparable performance for metal artifact reduction (MAR) and extended field-of-view (eFoV) features. These results indicate the potential for adaptive radiotherapy and optimized workflows using the HyperSight imaging solution. https://bit.ly/3LjW7De

Once every four years, the global radiotherapy community gathers for the World Congress of Brachytherapy, and thankfully, 2024 is one of those years. Brachytherapy is a time-tested method of delivering localized radiation directly to tumors while sparing the surrounding healthy tissues. Despite the long and robust history of this treatment method, our teams are excited to join in conversations about the latest advancements to brachytherapy. See you there!

Many women aged 30 to 50 suffer from heavy menstrual bleeding and pelvic discomfort. Uterine fibroids may be the cause. “Understanding the symptoms of fibroids is crucial and every woman deserves to hear about all treatment options available,” says Theresa Caridi, MD, FSIR, Director of Medical Affairs at Varian. “Tailoring solutions based on the unique characteristics of her fibroids - namely size and location - empowers a woman to make an informed decision about her health and well-being.” View our attached treatment guide to learn more about causes, symptoms, and treatment options for uterine fibroids.

We're incredibly proud of our Palo Alto #interns who recently volunteered at Second Harvest of Silicon Valley to help #EndHunger in our community. The team sorted an impressive 28,500 pounds of food - about the equivalent of a TrueBeam linear accelerator! Their hard work will have a significant impact for the nearly 5,000 local families who will receive this food. Great work team!
